Agree entirely, for me the biggest area of concern has been the wide players in midfield leaving our full backs exposed.

I feel a number of goals have been conceded because of this and Hoilett, Rochina, Goodwillie and Pedersen are all guilty of not helping out their full back.

The only wide players that have done so to any reasonable effect are Formica, Vukcevic and Marcus Olsson.

Hoilett has stopped causing problems down the other end so is currently proving more damage than good.

I also think that a long string of various injuries, suspensions and transfers have not allowed us to keep a settled XI for any length of time, but with Lowe and Givet returning I'm hoping Kean can really get a settled XI for our crucial run in.

If we want to get tighter at the back to only formation I feel we can do that is with:

-------Robinson
Orr Dann Givet Olsson
----Lowe N'Zonzi
Formica Dunn MOlsson
----------Yakubu

Why is that Vukevic never gets a game? Is he/has he been injured?

I've not seen much this season, but when I have (Arsenal at home) he's looked pretty good...

Anyone know more on this?

Remain a total mystery to me.

Have a instead.

But in all seriousness, it is strange that he isn't getting much game time, as each time he has played he has scored or assisted and tracked back well defensively.

A number of newly signed players are not getting a look in, which makes me wonder why we signed them?

Anderson - Ribiero - Vuckuvic - Goodwillie - Modeste -
Slew - Rochina.

As I've said before, I think that (as long as you have decent players - which in my opinion we do) it is easy for a manager to get his team to go out and attack. However it takes real know how to set a team up defensively, it is much more disciplined and structured than attacking. Kean clearly has no idea how to set a team up to make it hard to break down - that is a fact, hence us having the honour of being the only team in the 4 professional divisions in England not to keep a clean sheet this season.

At least Vuks has made the odd appearance, and impressed when he's come on.

Ribiero and Anderson can be dismissed as Kentaro-based witchcraft.

Slew I'm not so sure about: for the sake of a million quid was hardly a priority, potential though he may have.

Modeste looked lively on his debut (apart from the scoring bit), not seen much since.

And Goodwillie? Well, anyone who plays like they're wearing wellingtons on was always going to struggle in the Premier League.

posted on 6/3/12

When we signed Slew it was stated that he would go into the development squad (or however it was termed).

posted on 6/3/12

Although the million we spent on him could have been used to play a decent player's wages for a season.

Ah yes. The "elite development group" I believe it was called.

On another note I really wish we'd been able to sign Jermaine Jones.

We're in danger of having a reasonable debate on here...

A reasonable debate that can be summarised as follows:

Kean is useless.

Now now, let's keep this clean.

Pedersen.

Vuckevic is probably the biggets mystery. How Petrovic plays ahead of him I'll never know, he has looked hungry, energetic and largely an alright player. Whereas Petrovic has largely been as useful as a chocolate teapot but leaving less of a good taste in the mouth.

The evil Venkean empire have clearly trageted investing in youth with the view towards making future profits and hopefully uncovering superstars. Hence Slew and the eviction of our golden-oldies to make space in wages and playing time. However there are some signings that have been odd:

Modeste - unnecessary with Goodwillie enough of a bit part player to the Yak
Vuckevic - why buy and not play? Not perfect but actually not that bad and the major signing (apart from Dann and the Yak) that got me excited this year.
Petrovic - why play when he's clearly behind other players in terms of having any skill?
Ribiero/Anderson...

How about Keith Andrews performances this season for Ipwsich and now West Brom. He looks like a new player.

Yeah isn't Andrews in double figures for goals now!

I always liked him and never really saw the problem.

As it was Ince's signing he was always tarred with a bad brush, similarly with a lot of Kean's.

posted on 6/3/12

We should have kept him til the end of the season,
though I realise it wouldn't have been possible.

Often substandard for PL level (dribbling it INTO his own box: unbelievable) but having said that, a grafter and fit to play. Times like these those last two factors mean quite a bit.

Yeah, and as an option for central midfield he is comfortably better than Petrovic and Pedersen.

Anyone see the documentary on Sunday about Bernie Ecclestones and Flavio Briatores ill-fated ownership of QPR? Can you believe it? A club run by people who know nothing about football, assist stripping the club of all its best players, putting little or no money into new signings, coming out with ridiculous statements like they want 'champions league football in 4 years', undermining the manager.......I'm so glad it not Black....oh…wait a minute…that sounds familiar?

It has to be 4-2-3-1 as MacT says.

For me I'd have Dann and Hanley in the middle, Orr right and Gibet left.

N'Zonzi and either Peds or Lowe.

Olsson, Dun and Rochi supporting the Yak!

posted on 6/3/12

Whilst we had Samba and Nelsen I'd also have played Givet at LB and Olsson on the wing, butI think I'd rather have GGs fight and experience in the centre at the moment ahead of Hanley.

posted on 6/3/12

With the return of Givet and Lowe and the arrival of Marcus Olsson and Orr, at least there are more options. There is the opportunity to strengthen defence or midfield, or even both.

I'd like to see Martin Olsson's energy in midfield, so I'd bring back Givet at left back. With Orr at right back, Lowe can also play in midfield.

The team might be;
Robinson
Orr Dann Hanley Givet
Lowe N'Zonzi
3 from Dunn, Pedersen, Hoilett, Formica, Martin Olsson, Marcus Olsson. Difficult choice, but lets go for;
Formica Pedersen Martin Olsson
Yakubu

posted on 6/3/12

I would play 4 2 3 1
Robinson

Orr
Givet
Hanley
Olson

Lowe
N'zonzi

Hoilett
Dunn
Pedersen

Yakuba
Dann must be dropped very over rated he is the weakest link

What is this "clean sheet" of which you speak? I don't recognise it!

As for the squad, I'd go with:
Robbo
Lowe-Dann-Givet-Olsson
N'Zonzi-Pedersen
Formica-Hoilett-Vukcevic
Yakubu

I don't rate Orr at all, and I think Vukcevic is one of our better players. Why he isn't played is beyond me. And Petrovic should be kept in a cage at Brockhall so there is no chance of him escaping onto the pitch.
