I'm an accountant for Rangers
sorry Galv, but I became a bit obsessive!
It rings a bell from the time. I'm not entirely sure why....(I may have even been at a show you played, possibly even shared a stage - though I don't think so).
So the clues, coupled with some patchy ideas based on my memory of the time, and a bit of lucky googling...and I hit the jackpot!

do you mean clues for how I figured you out, or clues for who I am?

I was in two Galv. One I was in very briefly (ie, barely at all) but they went on to be pretty big right after ditching me! They're a 'punk' band, and a couple years ago really blew up as the 'next big thing'. Signed a big record deal etc and did really well. I'm bitter!
The band I spent much longer in was a 'metal' band. We weren't particularly big but did ok, released an album and EP, toured a lot, mags like Kerrang and Rock Sound raved about us quite a bit....

Well it's the second band I mentioned that I thought it possible we shared a stage. But I'm not entirely sure as I think we might have 'missed' each other by a year or two. I thought it could have been a festival, in Guildford or possibly in Berkshire.
The initials were EM.
Ok, who else is eavesdropping on this conversation?
