I watched the video earlier today, its a really sad thing these kids go through. I hope he gets found and arrested but I don't they will find him. He can easily go to the DR Congo or South Sudan and never be found.

Umbongo Umbongo they drink it in the Congo

Earlier last year they found Gadaffi and Osama Bin Laden. It's becoming harder to hide. Even in Africa. Part of their campaign is giving the technology so that they can communicate easier. The primary purpose of that technology is an early warning system so people can be made aware if this army approaches.

Erm Lady you clearly don't read Viz.

[from letters to the editor]

"Dear Sir,

I have just returned from a diplomatic trip to the Congo and I can testify that at no point did I see anyone drinking Um Bongo."

I think the whole point has gone completely over your head.
-----------------------------------
very much not. as i said, it is a worthwhile cause and something that needs sorting out.

He should, by rights, be more famous than Mugabe, Gaddafi, the lot. But he isn't.
-------------------------------------------
why? because they 'only' hurt adults? there are a lot of bad things going on in the world - personally i'd like to see them all sorted out - mugabe is one of the biggest terrorists in the world, yet because there is no oil, no diamonds and no celebs jumping up and down nothing gets done about him.

This is just the cause du jour for celebs, so it is getting coverage - what about all the other attrocities worldwide?

Selective copying, you know very well I was referring to your comment that it had no place in the sanctity of a football forum.

As for the rest of your comment, focusing on one cause does not, in any way lower the importance of others. It is futile and idiotic to suggest that campaigning for awareness of one issue is to detract from others.

No-one who supports this campaign thinks the other issues you mention are less newsworthy, just that this issue IS newsworthy.

The fact is that the majority of the world has never heard this man's name, yet the European Courts have named him as a number 1 target for arrest due to crimes against humanity, the majority of those against children.

I clearly riled you by insinuating that something had gone over your head, so for that I apologise. But your militant stance against this getting any coverage on ja606 baffles me.

no, i didn't.

thank you.

nothing militant about it. there was already an article below about it, and i simply think that, for a sports forum, one article per board is enough.

I agree that in the past he should have gotten more coverage - and that coverage is now being given, in the news, and all over all social networking sites - but that doesn't mean it has to be everywhere.

Should i write an article about the oil spills in the niger delta? or about mugabe? these are causes i passionately believe in, the delta in particular gets virtually no coverage yet kills thousands every year through annual oil spills the size of the one in america.

That's all i am saying - this is a very good cause - but it doesn't have to be everywhere.

I think the difference is that this cause is much more simply fixed. If serious powers get involved then Kony stands no chance whatsoever.

posted on 7/3/12

It's not simply fixed ranna! If you take away the head it doesn't just kill the flower. There are hundreds of other members, and many who could step up and continue his work. Al Qaeda aren't dead are they, not by any means.

I meant in comparison to the oil spills in the Niger delta. Where monetary interest is involved, it gets wilfully complicated.

Oh then I agree with you

In the interests of balance, here's a counter argument to Kony 2012:

An interesting read

Yes, but one steeped in what appears to be distaste for this type of movement.
Question everything. That's important. So I question the validity of his motives also. He's a PhD at LSE specialising in Ugandan issues but by providing an opposing view with good credentials he could be trying to get media coverage and boost his profile.

Not saying that he is, but you must analyse all sources.

posted on 7/3/12

I agree, he is definitely anti this movement. Still, an insightful read to the other side of the argument
