Simple question. What has been gained by swapping manager?
The only arguement i have heard that holds any weight is the pressure on Clark would have been massive knowing the the sack loomed if promotion was not achieved. However, i think that's ridiculous, what's wrong with the manager knowing his reputation rested on Town going up. I'd much rather that than the hiding to nothing that Grayson is on who can't resist telling us already in his interviews how the defensive problems were already here and not his fault.
The downside to the new manager is he knows nothing about our squad! The last 5 games have all been a learning curve for him at our expense. There is no way on earth Clark would have taken less than 9 points over those games.
If Simon wants to know if Jordan Rhodes likes playing up front on his own he didn't have to waste 120 minutes on the pitch he could have just asked him or even given me a call. Come on Simon, give me your contact details, i also know all sorts about the rest of your squad that you still have to learn.
I don't think the decision to sack Lee Clark was anything to do with the small number of fans protesting about him.
Dean Hoyle made the decision himself based on his own assumptions. It may same that there are loads of fans on this board who wanted him out, but this is only a small microcosm of opinion and doesn't neccessarily reflect the views of the 12,000 fans who go to matches.
We've had no chants of 'Clark out' at any games, so it's down to Deano really.
Having said that, I am feeling a little bit silly just now thinking to myself would LC have done better than SG over the past 5 games..maybe he would have. SG is experimenting in the same ways that LC did, and we all know all these experiments didn't work, so it's a bit galling to see it all happening again eg 4-5-1.
We just have to trust in Deano and SG that he can fix the obvious problems that LC found he had. Whereas LC had over 3 years at it, SG has had 5 games...and already arrived at the some point LC did eventually.
The loan market beckons this week...so long as it's not Kilbane....!
Apparently the stats say that any team that changes it's manager in January never gains promotion.....
The only advantage of changing your manager in January is he will save your team from relegation.....
There's something to look forwards to then...
I never said Deano was influenced by people on this message board, that wasn't the point I was making. I think LC should have been given till the end of the season. If we didn't get promotion LC would have put his hands up and walked.
There is myth that our results against the worst teams in the division were poor this season, it's simply not true. There is no way we would not have beaten Rochdale or Bury, 2 points from those games is a crime.
LC wouldn't have needed to walk...he'd have been pushed...he knew that, Deano knew that, the fans knew that...
Getting rid of Clark was like shooting under performing pilot then realising no one can fly the plane.
We were not gonna get promoted under LC in a million years. We had to change.
Unfortunately it doesn't look like we are gonna get promoted under Grayson either but it had to be tried.
However we do have plenty of games left yet for Grayson to suss it out before play-offs hopefully?
We'll never know about Clark and i'm not defending him cause he made lots of mistakes, but i am truely convinced he would have got more than 9 points from the last 5 games.
lillis... already here..knew the score..
deano gives him 16 games.. carte blanche to "go for it"...
we have nothing to lose by playing all out attack, at the very least we will gain enough points to have another crack at the play offs..
the way we are going we might end up having a big fight on our hands to stay in the play offs..
grayson seems to have accepted he is going to be here for over 3 years and can start all this "rebuilding my team bullsh-t again"...
Just what we need, another 3 year promotion plan.
Wake me up when we've got a team that looks like being good enough.....
