Tonight, Gibbs.

tough choice which is good..I'd take Santos over Gibbs as he is more experienced, attacking threat and love his flair.

Not sure what to make of the sudden resurfacing of these "Vertonghen to Arsenal" rumours?

Gibbs by far. He has tremendous natural positioning.

Santos is fine against weaker opposition and offers much more going forward. However he is not so good when put under pressure.

Of course I'm pleased as I really like Vertonghen.

Just wonder who would make way if we were to sign him?

Either Santos or Gibbs?

Maybe Song?

not gonna happen chief.

Where would he play?

We have Koscielny & Vermaelen as our prime CB partnership & Merte as back up. To sign Vertonghen for 10m to be 4th choice unless we are selling a CB or play him at LB, then what happens to Santos or Gibbs???

He can also play as DM but to be honest. it is not his prime position.
So maybe as back up for Song.
On the other hand, the M'vila rumours are also resurfacing

I agree, the Vertonghen rumours are lazy journalism.

Vertonghen was a target last year. He would have been a backup to Song, the center backs and Gibbs.

Since then, Coq has developed superbly, and we have bought Santos and Mert.

Gibbs against the big clubs (he's a slightly better defender), Santos against the little clubs (for his attacking threat)

---------------------------------------------------

M'Vila on the other hand is far more realistic if Arsene has had enough of Diaby.

M'Vila was always an alternative to Diaby in more physical games when Song is too slow to hold the central midfield on his own.

The Liverpool game at Anfield was a prime example where a Song and Wilshere/Arteta are not enough to out battle a counter attacking team.

The fact an article such as this even exists means that there are still question marks over the LB position at Arsenal.

Vertonghen's adaptability might have whetted Arsene's interest, especially considering the season we've had with defensive injuries.

Added to which, Alex Song is pretty much the only reason we rarely play any formation other than 4-3-3.
