When on form, he's as good as Cashley, if not better. He just hasn't been on form for a very long, long time.
He hasn't been in form since 2008, about time he's let go along with the rest of the deadwood.

That would mean he's one of the worlds best left backs when on form. Come on. He's not. He's average. Very Average. Baines is good. Better than Ashley at the moment.. There is no way Clichy is as good as those two.
Cole is a bit overrated himself. Not the best defender I've come across, but he's certainly better than Clichy.
It's unfair now to compare him to Cole. Cole was playing in a WAAAAAAAAAY better team and then moved to a cash cow team full of superstars. Cole has had a much easier journey and WAAAAAAAAAY more help to "Look good"

Il say this again though. Baines is number 1 at the moment. You should get him. he's got the lot. freekicks dribbles, corners, penalty taker good defender.
I don't deny that. I rate him still as one of the best but Cole was fortunate enough develop his game in a much stronger team. Far less opportunity to make mistakes and any mistakes that were made were far less critical to results. They weren't called invincible for nothing. I feel a little sorry for Chlichy actually.

You don't think he comes anywhere near him because you haven't watched him when he's on form, clearly. There was a point when he was very, very good. Like everyone is saying, that point was around three years ago. I also feel sorry for him.
don't blame clichy for us not winning a trophy, he is a good reliable player although not world class and does make the occasional howler.
its clear he wants a new start
Clichy has always been quite poor going forward, rarely contributes any assists and lacks composure in final third. And in the last couple of seasons has cost us quite a few goals due to lack of concentration.
Clichy is a very average LB, cannot defend or attack very well....
be glad to see him go and hope we get a proper defender in that position....
