One more season for Arteta?

I'm a big fan of his. He has done wonders with taking us out from the gutter and transforming us into a competitive side, this season and last season. I doubt many other managers could have done better.

But saying that, how long do we go on with the narrative that he's improved us and turned us into a title challenger. I think he has had enough backing from the owners and supporters that he now needs to start delivering trophies.

Questions will be asked of him if he he has failed to deliver next season.

A clubs success is measured on trophies and Arteta hasn't delivered that yet.

This is our first season back in the CL after a very long time, and it's tremendous that we have been able to challenge Man City. I am amazed at the unrealistic expectation. Rome was not built in a day.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Modern fans, we’ve got some on our board getting fed up with Ange in his first season, in a potential CL qualifying position a year after we were a toxic hellhole and sold a generational talent in the summer - yet most thought we would be 6/7th at best this season.

I get they might have expected us to finish above Villa, but no one in their right mind would have expected us to finish above Pool, City and yourselves this season.

Certainly for me I'm not massively critical of him but what I don't want to see is the same mistakes repeated and it just feels like that has happened a bit certainly in squad management. It's things that could have been avoided either by buying the right players last summer or putting more faith in the players we already have in the squad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree, squad rotation is an issue. Though I also understand why it is inevitable when you have to integrate starters.

The reason why I think we have fallen short is goal scoring. Out of Martinelli, Odegaard and Saka only Saka has reached his last year totals. And although Havertz has passed Xhaka/Jesus contributions, it is obviously not enough.

Had we scored the clear chances we created in the first half the game would have been over.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes I think it's fair to say Martinelli hasn't had a good season. I think the next one will be big for him he needs to perform. I will say though in his defence he has it hard given that most of the time he doesn't have an overlapping fullback to back him up the left sided eight position is still somewhat up in the air. In fact I think if we don't win the league that will be where we lost it that whole side needs a rethink in the summer. Hopefully with Timber coming back that will make difference.

We definately need a top forward I just hope they haven't been fooled with Havertz's form up top. He's done a good job up there but he's never going to score 15-20 goals which is what we need.

That's just the way it is. Liverpool didn't really expect a title challenge this season after last season's debacle. But after actually challenging the frustration if losing out changes the perspective. Same for Spurs after getting this close, will still be tough to take after getting so close.

Imagine if Liverpool or Spurs had started the season badly and then clawed their way back into their current positions. That scenario may as well be a whole alternate dimension because the attitudes and comments would be very different, yet the teams would be in the same position they are now.

Naturally.

It does show the reactionary nature of fans. No doubt if the scenario played out as you had written, then this kind of thread would have appeared earlier in the season as well.

Your comment is not quite the insightful comment you think it is. On the contrary, it’s an incredibly obvious observation. Which has been played out time and time again.

For me its all about the direction we're heading in, last season we overachieved in terms of the project but we've managed to make sure it wasn't an anomaly.

If we crumble again I think questions have to be asked, but ultimately I think we're having a pretty successful season.

I also think that while we have spent a lot, we have numerous examples around us that spending money isn't a guarantee of success, so it shouldn't really be used as a stick to beat him with.

I also think Arteta makes some mistakes but history has showed that he generally learns from them and until that stops being the case, he should still be here.

Watched this game on the tele yesterday and it was definitely lost by the Arsenal sidelines! Even the commentators began to notice that Arsenal had seemed to be sleepwalking through the second half of one of the most important games of their season! Arteta will not bring this team a PL championship!

Unfortunately I think it’s only a matter of time before you win a title - in the next 2-3 season without a doubt.

I can’t see Liverpool remaining this competitive after Klopp leaves. City will surely suffer a points deduction in the next season or two. Chelsea won’t compete for a long time, which leaves us, Newcastle and Man United as the other potential challengers, all of which are way behind Arsenal and have so much ground to make up,

Even if you don’t win anything next season, if you remain at a similar level to this you’d be stupid to sack him. And I doubt you will.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We may not be as competitive under Klopp but we’ll still be a lot closer than Spurs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure about that, Salah and Klopp going and us able to spend the same amount as Liverpool these days presents an opportunity for us. Pre Klopp we were finishing above you. In the Klopp era we finished above you.

Liverpool realistically have to replace Klopp, Salah and VVD this summer - that is some ask
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not too concerned about Salah he’s not been himself since ACON and we’ve done remarkably well until the last couple of games.

We’re also 20 points ahead of Spurs, who have been able to focus on the league all season while we’ve gone deep in all competitions. The gap is huge between the two teams and I don’t think Spurs are improving as fast as the fans would seem to think so.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The gap is 11 points not 20.

The likelihood of Liverpool improving in their first season post Klopp is low, the likelihood of Spurs improving in their second season with Ange is quite high.

Bookmark, I fancy we will finish above you next year. Can do a bet if you want?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Happy to do it.

I did correct the 20 points by the way, confused you with United for which I owe a thousand apologies

Obvious to whom? Clearly not to the person I was replying to. It was an accurate explanation to the phenomenon described and therefore relevant.

You're reply is utterly pointless and silly while at the same time adding nothing here, even the obvious.
