I'm hoping James can play in midfield too as him only being able to play RCB in a back three is very limiting to both him and us. He clearly can't play RB or RWB anymore.

What's even more damning about the absurd amount of injuries we keep having is that we're not even in Europe so being overplayed or overstretched in any way simply can't be used as any kind of excuse.

Something very strange and very wrong is happening at the club and to make matters even worse (if that was even possible) so many of these injuries aren't even happening in matches. It's beyond bizarre at this point and the club have to address this.

I know they launched a review into the medical / injuries problems over a year ago.

Have heard it suggested that training methods for the majority of last season didn't help the situation so that would point towards or question the coaching staff at that time being at fault to some degree.

Also a major factor being the loss of a substantial amount of combined years experience in the medical staff who were shown the door more or less all at the same time early on by the new owners.

A particular impact as a knock on saw the retained Conditioning staff far less experienced , and struggling to cope with dealing with one game a week.

Very surprising to me but was told that apparently managing only one game a week is a lot more difficult than managing playing two games a week consistently.

There was also very strong criticism levelled at the organisation of the previous two pre-seasons, very difficult to effect change that has any realistic impact once the season has begun.

Appointment of new head to ensure that previous problems are not repeated next season.

I think he is excellent at RCB and most likey his best position, so unlikely to limit him. Also allows Gusto to plat as RWB, which might suit him better as I don't rate him defensively agst good players.

Just not sure though if 3 4 3 is for us in general. It could be if we got a proper striker

It would limit him in that if we're not married to 3atb then he's not playing. Unless he can play as a CB in a back two which seems less likely given he's about 5'9/5'10.

James can play as an inverted RB, similar to how Trent/Porro do for Liverpool/Spurs. So we can continue in a back 4 if that's what Poch/new manager want to play.

This will hopefully stop the constant need for him to be flying up and down right hand side which usually causes him to breakdown.

Gusto doesn't seem that reliable in terms of staying fit either, currently out with a knee injury.

Liverpool really have bottled it.

Let’s see how James gets on after his operation. If it really has fixed his injury problem, he’s a genuinely great player. We’re unlikely to see the best of him this season though, and I’d be surprised if Southgate picks him for the Euros squad.

Chilwell is likely to go to the Euros - not because Southgate particularly likes him, but because there are no other left backs.

Who knows what will happen with Colwill - will he ever be fit again?

Neither James nor Chilwell should be going to the Euros. They can’t stay fit for more than a few days.

Time wasn’t up. The keeper threw the ball down on the ground because he had an injury, but the game was still live. It was only because Gakpo ran in to get the ball that the ref blew his whistle. It was a weird passage of play. Funny though.

I wouldn’t call Caicedo disappointment of the season. The sad thing is he’s probably been one of our better players, by simply being average.

The reason I wouldn’t say disappointment is because it was already clear we were massively overpaying for him thanks to the owners being fools.

Biggest disappointments are Nkunku and Lavia. Even though it’s not necessarily their wrongdoing.

If we had paid half the amount for Caicedo, then I think people would’ve been ok with his signing.
