Straight line speed seems to be the order of the day here so I'm expecting a strong showing from all Mercedes powered teams.

Top 10 Prediction:
1) Hamilton
2) Rosberg
3) Button
4) Bottas
5) Massa
6) Ricciardo
7) Magnussen
8) Alonso
9) Perez
10) Vettel

Is it just me or does the track remind you of Canada

Not in the design per se but the barriers and high speed aspects

Looking at the track, I do not see any heavy duty braking zones. Not sure if qualifying on pole is a good idea on this track as well.

Thinking about it, you might be right.

Maybe Tilke was taking inspiration from Montreal.

Always interesting seeing a new addition to the calender in the flesh or to be more accurate on the goggle box for the first time ,

problem is manx we never know what we are going to get with tilke , having said that from what i gather it has the characteristics of a street circuit so it is just about impossible to think that tilke has not designed in a number of passing spots -

If hamilton wins this one i cant see rosberg making up the ground to catch lewis for the title --

I agree JS, far too many what must be relatively slow 90 degree bends.
How can you predict pole time for a new circuit.... pure guess work till next year.
For Japan I predicted Hamilton with a time of 1'32.783 who whilst qualifying 2nd got 1'32.703!
Damn you Rosberg, could have come higher than 20th on that bit!!
Don't forget this time MUDD!!

The Bianchi family has this afternoon issued a statement with the latest update on Jules Bianchi’s condition following his accident on Sunday and subsequent surgery to a severe head injury.
The statements says: “This is a very difficult time for our family, but the messages of support and affection for Jules from all over the world have been a source of great comfort to us. We would like to express our sincere appreciation.
“Jules remains in the Intensive Care Unit of the Mie General Medical Center in Yokkaichi. He has suffered a diffuse axonal injury and is in a critical but stable condition. The medical professionals at the hospital are providing the very best treatment and care and we are grateful for everything they have done for Jules since his accident.
“We are also grateful for the presence of Professor Gerard Saillant, President of the FIA Medical Commission, and Professor Alessandro Frati, Neurosurgeon of the University of Rome La Sapienza, who has travelled to Japan at the request of Scuderia Ferrari. They arrived at the hospital today and met with the medical personnel responsible for Jules’ treatment, in order to be fully informed of his clinical status so that they are able to advise the family. Professors Saillant and Frati acknowledge the excellent care being provided by the Mie General Medical Center and would like to thank their Japanese colleagues.”
The hospital will continue to monitor and treat Jules and further medical updates will be provided when appropriate.”

A DAI isnt good guys. Comon jules pull through

posted on 7/10/14

The outcome is frequently coma, with over 90% of patients with severe DAI never regaining consciousness.[2] Those who do wake up often remain significantly impaired.[3]

posted on 7/10/14

Not seen any medical reports but possibly Schumacher has / had similar injuries.
Due to the fact DAI is an internal injury there were probably no external signs at the time.
A reason why many are not noticed and in some cases are fatal. Liam Neeson's wife Natasha(?) Richardson an example. Prompt action and early surgery (craniectomy?) can result in some remarkable recoveries, though I'd hate to build people's hopes.

Russian Grand Prix: Preview of inaugural F1 race in Sochi

Interesting backdrop, going around the olympic village

Few too many 90 degree corners for my liking, makes the track a bit stop start and reminds me of the end of the Abu Dhabi track

Two decent straights with DRS into two big break zones will be the passing points

The long turn 3 (I think) looks interesting

I like the barriers around the track, wonder what the odds are for Crashtor going into one

posted on 9/10/14

Also forgot to mention that, barriers close to the outside of bends like Canada, Monaco, Singapore could cause a few trip ups
