What an utter shambles this lot are

Leaderless and rudderless.

4 more years of this
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In your dreams. Starmer has a ten year, two term plan.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

More like in your dreams the way this is going

Already plenty of the 34% who voted the party in are regretting their decision and the leadership (for what it is) is disintegrating by the day with more scandals yet to be released.

They’ve U turned on many of their big plans and their pie in the sky British Energy already looks a lame duck. Let’s see which private investors that attracts.

Their so called non dom cash loophole closing is being watered down because the mobile super rich are exactly that. Mobile. And they’ve made their threat very real that they will just fwck off despite the left wing think tank that wagered otherwise.

Starmer a popularity has plummeted worse than anyone could imagine in such a short space of time and this upcoming budget will either again prove to be a damp squib or pretty much throttle private investment.

But aye; they’ve a 10 year mandate.

Keep the faith
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Starmer's policies will play out over a 5 yr period and he'll be judged on the whole period rather than a 3 mth window,

Right now I'd still bet on Labour winning the next GE. Not because I'm especially confident over Starmer but because the Tories seem determined to self-harm with another lunge to the right. They seem to want to take the Reform space and I just don't think there are enough votes there to win a GE. Any government needs to appeal to the middle ground.

It would probably help if the media would get out of their bubble that every little thing is a scandal that needs reporting.

Some of the recent stuff has deserved reporting e.g cash for clothes, how intertwined Lord Alli appears to be to everyone in the party, but there's also a lot of guff in there that's being horrendously reported and has no bearing on government.

Sue Gray being on £200k, who cares really? It's an important job that only highlighted how underpaid our top politicians/civil servants are. There's even an article in the Times today about Raynor buying an expensive suit with her own money. Like what? How is this news?

posted on 7/10/24

It would be more palatable if there was even a touch of parity in the reporting. It’s not like the papers were reporting this heavily on the far bigger donations that Boris was taking is it and I could go on.

However, it is quite funny to see the right wing snowflakes being duped annd manipulated into thinking this stuff is a big deal.

Oooooo the optics!!!!

Calm down Margaret.

This is partly why McSweeney, a Comms specialist, has come in. The govt can go some way to stop these stories that get Gingernuts all excited by not leaving a Comms space for rumours to fill.

Starmer was taking the p1ss out of the Tories and being deliberately provocative when he appointed Gray so it's hardly surprising that folk are enjoying it going so wrong. If you're gonna dish it our make sure you can take it.

This blaming of the media is hilarious. During a cost of living crisis a government (that assured us what decent people they are) is nicking £300 off the pensioners and giving very well paid train drivers big pay rises.

People don't need the media to work out that far from a government of service this is a government of self service. Bunch of cants.

It's easy to say it's not the media's fault but then you're talking solely about train drivers, whilst ignoring the strikes were also for cleaners, ticket staff, over overtime pay, working conditions, reductions in ticket offices, and threats of redundancies. I imagine that's because the media kept mentioning train drivers whilst ignoring everything else.

And besides, there's also a decent chunk of those pensioners who don't need £300.

That Tory attack ad the other day interviewed 3 pensioners and yet all had spacious homes, 2 had pets, had coffee machines, expensive jewelry on, one said she is in a tennis club. Are we really to believe those are the sort of pensioners who are £300 away from heating or eating?

Of course there are pensioners that don't need it but more importantly there are many who are hugely reliant on it.

Maybe the train drivers should have taken a lesser rise and given the extra money to the cleaners, ticket staff.....etc.

On this forum those who don't agree with the lefty majority are demonised as puppets of the right wing media. Here's the news, 1in 5 of the electorate voted Labour the remaining 80% don't all read the Mail or Telegraph.

I’m a bit of a lefty but I like to think I’m also open minded, I actually agree with point on pensioners and I don’t agree with the rises train drivers received considering the state of the railways in this country

I don't think anyone who disagrees has bought into the media, Labour have had a bit of a mare over certain things which as a lefty myself in quite disappointed in.

However I do believe it naturally infects the subconscious when they misreport things because we as humans quite often don't have time to find out the full story of everything that reported and understandably just read the headline.

I've been guilty of it myself.

According to the Guardian (nice lefty rag) 9.9 million pensioners have lost the winter fuel allowance and apparently many of those who are already skint will not qualify for any other help.

Fackin right wing media!!?

That’s doesn’t even remotely answer what I asked?

The ones that are in genuine need will still receive it, and may also receive further, unclaimed, benefits as a result.

So what the problem? It’s a genuine question.

You don't even have to read the Mail to be aware of its clickbait/gaslighting articles. Secondhand reporting in other outlets or on the web, 'as reported in Mail online' etc, happens a lot.

It's also much easier to cause outrage with a headline saying Labour have killed your Nan over £300, than it is to ask why as a first world country we're in the situation that thousands of our pensioners can't afford to heat their homes.

It’s a lie, try actually talking to real pensioners if you want to hear the reality.

I helped one of my neighbours fill in their Pension Credit form online and he was ineligible because of his (modest) savings. We went back and adjusted the form saying he had no savings, he was entitled to 0.15p a week 😹

His only income is his state pension and he rents his house which takes up 50% of that.

He’s in his 70s, should he try and get a job delivering for Amazon?

That sound like they feel £110 per week is enough to live on. I mean the pension is too low imo, but that’s the maths.

Yep we have some of the lowest pensions in Europe whilst also having some of the highest energy bills, and successive governments have failed to sort it. However talking about this would be to admit that privatisation has utterly failed, which plenty with influence don't want to admit.

It's far easier to say look over there, than it is to address the actual issue.

Is the Guardian a "lefty rag"? I've always seen it as a liberal paper that doesnt cheerlead for left wing politics the way the blue rinse brigade of Mail, Express and Telegraph do for the lunatic right.

We work longer hours, retire later and have lower pensions. Add on less workers, currently 1 pensioner to 4 workers expected to be 1/2 by 2050, and future generations (generation rent) not having housing as an asset.

He’s a dead nice bloke but he took the 15p bit badly and that was basically the end of the conversation.

I’ll go and see him again this week and explain the 15p means he’s entitled to other payments but he’s one the “I’ve never claimed a penny in my life” brigade
