Not sure Makhachev wants Olives on the ground though.

Wow, what a way to end the year.

Gutted for Dustin but Oliviera continues to prove the doubters wrong and I include myself in that group. I knew Oliviera had the skill but his durability has shocked me. He recovered after being hurt by Chandler and he took some big shots from Dustin and still came forward. His game is so well rounded, it's difficult to see anyone beating him. I'll also put this out there, I think Oliviera might be the man to give Khabib a run for his money, if he came back.

Tremendous performance from Pena but let's be honest, Nunes looked like she didn't respect her at all. She kept walking her down and trying to land big shots, despite eating a constant stream of jabs.

Oliviera vs Islam is the biggest fight in that division now. A wonderful stylistic match up and a genuine 50/50.

I think Islam might have a few surprises for Charles, on the ground. I think it's a fight that Charles would keep standing, as he has a big advantage there.

Wonder Oldman should probably retire now......how is he top 5 still? When did he last win? Only remember a string of loses

posted on 19/12/21

Father time catches up to every fighter and Wonderboy is now feeling his touch. He looked one dimensional and his striking hasn't really evolved, whilst his takedown defence has regressed. Great fighter during his prime but sadly, we are seeing him winding down.

posted on 19/12/21

It's almost convenient that Wonderboy loses on the same night that his old foe, Tyron Woodley gets knocked out.

Yeh in all fairness he seems to have been paired up with people who have a fairly decent ground game. As you said great striker a few years ago but honestly I can't remember the last good fight I saw him in, just see him being taken to the ground and pummeled for 15 mins or less. Gone are the days now of pure strikers in the lower weight classes, if you can't grapple best leave now, maybe a move to BK might suit him, plays more to his strengths

It doesn't help that he's in the welterweight division where the top 2 guys (Usman + Colby) can both wrestle very well and you have others in the mix who can also do well on the ground.

That's why guys like Jose Aldo deserve so much respect. He recreated himself at bantamweight division and has evolved his game and abilities to match the current level, despite still being past his prime.

Yeh and on top of that I was just thinking, I haven't seen him look happy. His heart doesn't seem to be in at all. Like if you asked me to describe wonder boy at the moment, it's looking unhappy and dejected under an opponent. He just looks like he is there for a paycheck - but the fight ha left him

Issy too good, can’t be stifled at MW with wrestling. I think he only gets beat with a perfect shot or somebody who can walk through the fire the way Gastelum did.

Great win for Tuivasa, shame for Lewis who I’m a big fan of.

Gutted for Whittaker. I think Izzy won that 3-2 but it was closer than the commentary were talking about. I thought Whittaker's lack of reach and size really hurt his gameplan because he was having to hold down the bigger man and that's never an easy thing, especially when Whittaker is not a wrestler. I can't really see anyone at middleweight currently, that can take him down and keep him there. I think stylistically, a Till vs Adesanya fight would be fascinating, as would Luke Rockhold vs Adesanya.

Tuivasa vs Lewis was an edge of the seat type of fight. When both guys let there hands go, it was a coin toss as to who would land. Tuivasa's chin held up and he looked fresher and he was able to catch Lewis and put him away. Tuivasa vs Miocic next?

Jared had a great performance against the wrestling heavy approach from Brunson. Despite being taken down a few times, Jared remained positive and stuck to his gameplan and eventually, his power was too much for Brunsons one dimensional approach.

Actually, Khamzat Chimaev could be a big problem for Adesanya, if he's able to earn his title shot. What a story if Chimaev is able to dethrone both Usman and Adesanya.

UFC London was phenomenal. One of the best non PPV cards ever.

Alex Pereira is working his way up the rankings and has a KO over Adesanya in Kickboxing. If you look at his fights you will see why.

Adesanya won't be champ for too long. He's been lucky to come up against strikers but he will get beat when a good grappler comes along. Chimaev is not in his weight class but would finish Adesanya with the quickness IMO. Adesanya absolutely cannot grapple.

As for Kamaru, don't underestimate this guy. He can go toe to toe with Chimaev on the ground, or at least hold his own and has arguably better striking. What a fight that will be one day.

UFC 273 Predictions:
Volk vs Zombie
I think this goes 5,purely because of Zombies chin and grit but Volk should out land him by a large margin and make it look very professional.
Volk via UD

Yan vs Sterling
I can't see anything but a Yan win. Sterlings trying to put on a brave face but once the cage door closes, Yan is going to take him apart and finish him legally this time.
Yan via TKO round 4

Burns vs Chimaev
This is my most anticipated fight. The Chimaev hype train has gathered enormous steam and I'm still yet to board but Burns will determine if it's real or not. I actually expect this to be a tougher fight than most people and I can see Burns experience and ground game pushing the fight into the later rounds. However, the size will be a factor and I see Chimaev stopping him, with ground and pound.
Chimaev via TKO round 3

A great card and one that I am certainly looking forward to.

I’d go with all 3 of your picks.

Great card, excited for this one

Good fight and test for Chimaev. He cant be that open against a Usman though.

Great card

Chimaev vs Burns was one of the best fights I have seen in recent times. It was a war and it showed us that Chimaev has the ability to dig deep when things aren't going his way and Burns made sure of that. Tremendous performance from both men.
