PL Title race 23/24

I still think Spurs aren’t out of this race yet, especially when they get Maddison and Van Der Ven back. Like us without Salah and Endo, will be interesting how they get on without Son, Sarr and Bissouma for the next month.

Yeah that’s why I have them 3rd for now.

No European footy too, we shall see.

I can see the other 4 teams going deep into their European campaigns so that might play apart.

With injuries who knows.

it really depends how good you and city are. I think we (along with arsenal) could finish at around 80-85 points if we managed to stay fit the rest of the way, but if you or city end up returning to your 90 point form then we have no chance

I know we're technically 'only' 5 points off the top, but I think we've left ourselves too much to do and have to be careful we're not dragged into a top-4 race. We're currently closer to Spurs than we are to Liverpool, which speaks volume about how bad our recent form is.

You can't drop points in all the games against Villa, Newcastle, Spurs, Chelsea, Fulham and West Ham, yet expect to win the title. Second half of the season, we have some difficult away fixtures also. I think we're going to drop a lot more points too.

For us to win the title now, we'll have to win between 14-16 of the remaining 18 matches, which is basically almost impeccable form, and it's not likely we do that at all.

I think we should just focus on securing top-4 and go all out for the cups. This squad isn't capable of a title charge.

Not ideal that we're playing you lot in the FA Cup, but the game has taken on more importance after recent results.

The away games could be key tbh.

We’ve got Arsenal, Everton, Villa and United away left.

City got us, Newcastle and Spurs away.

Arsenal have City, United and Spurs away.

So a long way to go yet and plenty of points to be dropped.

I think we’ll be rotating heavily for our FA cup game tbf as we have the 2 league cup semi final games this month too.

The impact of player loss over the next month could be a major deciding factor especially as city lose nobody and get the winter break to bring haaland and de bruyne up to speed after injury.

Salah an obvious loss for us but I actually think his performances have been a little average this year even though his output has still been class. Jota back means we still have depth there without him plus Elliott is capable of impacting games from there. Endo not so bad as AMA is back now.

Son for spurs looks massive as I really do think they rely on him soo much. Granted I haven't watched loads of them but everything was through him in the games I have seen.

If some of those key players go far into the competitions it could really hurt. If they only miss 2 premier league games then it should be manageable.

We aren’t in a title race this year - we won’t make 6 points up on Liverpool and given both goal difference and the fact we have to go to Anfield it’s more like 10 points.

Finishing in the CL spots have to be our aim this year and then further good recruitment will allow us to hopefully step up again. The good news is we have the right man in charge and the squad is full of good young players.

Agree, I do think you will have a good chance at 3rd though especially if Arsenal go deep in the CL.

Spurs were never in a title race tbh. Sure they will have an effect on who wins it as they are one if the stronger sides but they aren't Villa. I see Villa as contenders but not spurs. Few teams have performed better than Villa in 2023. Spurs having VAR rob Liverpool has kinda given them a boost. Even then I don't see anyone who genuinely thinks they could win the league.

spurs are losing more than us for the acon and asia cup.

they are really impacted.

If we ignore the jibes and focus on the real issues then spurs are massively impacted by injuries and these two tournaments but they are also impacted by being wide open at the back.

No club can take those injuries and not be affected.

yeah well seeing as you tipped Chelsea to finish above us when we were already about 10 games into the season the villa fans reading this should be very nervous

Spurs can be pretty awful when key personnel aren't available as the backups just aren't up to it. With a strong January and a bit of luck on the injury front (and ideally less stupidity on the discipline front), it might be possible to work around the absence of Son/Sarr/Bissouma for an extended period, but more likely I reckon Spurs will be in the fight for 4th or 5th with Villa.

I think City and Liverpool will steadily pull ahead of the pack with Arsenal 3rd.
