I think 5th place beckons, but that’s likely to be a CL spot this year so that’s fine.

This side need to be playing more games, we just looked lost at times in that first half.

One thing we do have now though is game changers on the bench - those options are dragging us through this season now.

Will be happy with a point at Villa, that keeps the chasing pack at bay
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hhhmnnnn didn't think of that scenario.....

A lack of games...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We didn’t know what we were doing in the first half and really struggled to create bar the Werner chance. Second half, BJ presses Anderson well to rob the ball, gets lucky with a ricochet and we’re all square. Faaack knows why Cuti was so high up for the 2nd and the 3rd was typical of the situation with Palace pushing.

I think if we could get 4 or 5 games with a settled line up and no breaks then we could get back into the groove and start games much better.

Anyway, we likely need 4 more wins to rubber stamp a Euro spot - lower grade competition. With Home games against Burnley, Luton and Forest and away games against Sheffield United and Fulham we should get the job done. Villa go to Ajax on Thursday before we play them on Sunday - big opportunity for us in my opinion

Mt MOM today was Mickey VDV.
The guy's all over the place, covering our errors. And nobody gets past him!
Now then, who's the better defender, vdv or Kyle Walker at his prime?
Your opinions please!

Notice one other thing....when Romero gets the ball, the opposing team do not attack him, they stand off and defend.
Why?
Because they know a very accurate upfield pass is coming, and if they attack,..... that pass will go to the open Spurs attacker.
He's a geat CB and we're lucky to have him.
Messi says Romero is the best RBC in the game.

Villa are away to Ajax on Thursday before playing us on the Sunday - it’s a huge opportunity for us to close the gap.

If Villa beat us then we’re playing for 5th tops. Win it and we’ve got a real chance of catching them.

Naturally I think it will be a draw, 1-1 being my guess. I think they will finish ahead of us by a point or 2 come seasons end, but we will qualify for the CL as England will get the extra spot, so 5th will be enough.

I agree with this. Arsenal had a shocking run at Xmas, no wins in 6 or something yet are still comfortably going to finish 3rd. City have had De Bruyne and Haaland together for 2 Prem games this season but will win the title. Liverpool will finish a point or 2 behind despite having to play kids in key positions for months.

I absolutely agree with Ange that our biggest problem has been the start stop nature of the season for us. We’re playing a 41 game season - utterly pathetic for us. We needed far more game time to gel this side together, add in injuries and it’s been a disaster in terms of continuity. A real shame as well because we have been a great watch generally.

The lesson that has to be learned is to not rotate ourselves out of cup comps like we did the League cup this year. I’m convinced we will get some sort of Europe even if we really falter from here - faaaacking go for it and try to win.

I’m sure we will. I think all the pressure is on them and Emery, they got the hardest draw they could have got in their Euro comp, win that game though and they should win the whole thing as the only other barely mediocre sides are Olypiacos, Fiorentina and Lille.

Ange will go with more or less the same side as yesterday, Porro might come back in, otherwise I suspect we will be unchanged and we will go full throttle.

Emery on the other hand has a run of Ajax (A) Spurs (H) Ajax (H) West Ham (A) - it’s a tough run for them to negotiate and dropped points in these games could really hurt as they also play Arsenal, City and Liverpool before the season ends - the first 2 being away as well. ECL winner gets a Europa spot, they want CL, let’s see what Emery does, all eyes on Thursday

Given that top 5 will probably be enough for CL it's more important for United to be kept at bay than what Villa are doing. Good thing is they play City away today. At least a draw to Villa and we're 7 points above United with superior goal difference. You'd think that's enough for top 5, with some decent fixtures after that for the next 3 or 4 games.

Still would like to see us finish as high as possible and with what Villa have on their plate I think this is quite doable.

United have decent fixtures, I would not be surprised if they picked up about 23 points between now and the end of the season - we’d need 17 points to beat them out, if they got 23. The big games for us are the 3 home games against Burnley, Luton and Forest, as well as the 2 aways against Fulham and Sheff United. Win all of those and we will get the other couple of points needed to see off United.

I think we need 10 points to rubber stamp Euro footy next season, 12 for Europa. It does now feel like a case purely of what competition we will end up in, I just can see us finishing below 6th at this stage.

My guess is we beat Vill and we will finish 4th. Lose or draw and we finish 5th

United are still are team who can be unpredictable with their results, sort of like ourselves in recent weeks. I mean they have won more than they've lost in the last few games but you wouldn't have expected them to lose to Fulham at home considering it's off the back of wins against Villa and Wolves.

I'm confident with enough of a gap and our own form that we can remain ahead of them. Let's be honest, it would take a bit of a collapse from ourselves and we've only lost 1 in our last 5, despite concern from certain Spurs supporters lately.

Yeah I think you'll be fine with regards to us. I'm sure Spurs will drop plenty of points between now and May but there's not a chance in hell you'll drop 10 more than we will. And that's what will be required after our inevitable hammering today. You'll be 6 ahead of us with a game in hand and a massive GD advantage

They’ve beaten us the last 3 times we have played them, but fack me have they been lucky on a couple of those occasions.

With Son in the 9 position and Maddison in the 10 we will cause them loads of issues - it won’t be like the home game when we had a shell of a team but still outplayed them

Bloody Villa

Honestly they are so average. How are they 4th?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We play them next....and we'll see who's "average" then, won't we?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s a big game then!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Damned well sure is....make or break this season!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, what they used to call a 6 pointer!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Villa are away to Ajax on Thursday before playing us on the Sunday - it’s a huge opportunity for us to close the gap.

If Villa beat us then we’re playing for 5th tops. Win it and we’ve got a real chance of catching them.

Naturally I think it will be a draw, 1-1 being my guess. I think they will finish ahead of us by a point or 2 come seasons end, but we will qualify for the CL as England will get the extra spot, so 5th will be enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Strike.

Hopefully we go for the win though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Given that top 5 will probably be enough for CL it's more important for United to be kept at bay than what Villa are doing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------
United are still are team who can be unpredictable with their results, sort of like ourselves in recent weeks.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I think you'll be fine with regards to us. I'm sure Spurs will drop plenty of points between now and May but there's not a chance in hell you'll drop 10 more than we will. And that's what will be required after our inevitable hammering today. You'll be 6 ahead of us with a game in hand and a massive GD advantage
----------------------------------------------------------------------
See how you get on today. Maybe not the best thing to be ruling United out just before they have a game where you expect them to easily lose, cause that's when it often comes back to bite.

Looks like Villa finish 4th

We are as high now as we will finish. The result against Fulham killed any outside hope we may have had.

I think we will do well to finish 6th now. This team full of bottlejobs, the terrible home form has cost us as those games we should have won are the difference now to being in the top 4.
