Yorkshire have won 33 County Championships, the next best is Surrey with 22

Surrey have turned Lawrence into a first change all rounder

Lords pitch looks good with 795 runs scored for the loss of 4 wickets.

Notts and Essex probably battling it out to be the early leaders as that looks to be the only div 1 game likely to get a result.

Looks like Essex may have already shot themselves in the foot with a possible points deduction.

Brook batting for Yorkshire and going along ok with 46 not out... off 31 balls. First CC game in 2 years as well.

Essex hunting for victory as Sam Cook takes his 5th of the innings and has 5/9 with Notts 59/8 chasing 335.

Sam Cook is definitely the most natural Jimmy Anderson replacement we have but he will be 27 in a few months so may well retire before Jimmy does . Something mental like 275 wickets for him at an average below 20 in FC cricket. We ignored Porter but surely can't ignore Cook for England.

Yep, Cook took 10 wickets in the match to help Essex to the only win in the first round of fixtures.

I will be quite happy for England to keep on ignoring him. Sad for him, mind but good for Essex.

Yeah I understand reservations about him overseas but there's surely no better option in English conditions.

Will be quite mad if he doesn't get a cap at some point.

This first round of fixtures took place with a kookaburra but I do think he has a chance, Ollie Robinson took a lot of wickets for a long time for not very many and didn't get his chance until he was 28.

275 @ 19.48 can't be ignored for too much longer though but he's probably got 6 or 7 ahead of him. Think he's a like for like for Anderson when the great man retires.

Durham choosing to field only for Warwickshire to respond with 210/0 in just 39 overs.

Ouch

Batters are getting on with it today, might be the use of the kookaburra ball and making up for last week but you've got a few teams going at 4, 4.5, 5.5 at the moment. I mean even Dean Elgar is scoring at a strike rate of 65.

It's not been a great day for England players, Duckett 9, Root 2, Brook 26, Potts 0/61 off 12, Atkinson
0/39 off 9, JOverton 0/37 off 8, Lawrence 0/35 off 7,

Yeah, you had Steve Harmison thinking they'd be close contenders for Surrey this year. I mean they still could be but it's not been a good day for them. They do have a class bowling line up in Potts, Raine, Boland, Carse and Callum Parkinson so they'll have better days with the ball.

Extraordinary collapse from Somerser. 196/1 to 216/8. Batting was a huge problem for them last year and if not for the 178 2nd wicket partnership, they'd be in serious trouble.

EDR,

Any idea why Sam Cook isn't playing today?

posted 3 weeks, 6 days ago

Not sure, can only assume he's injured but haven't seen anything on it. Beard is an exciting bowler who can get close to 90 but Cook always plays and you wouldn't rest a bowler after 1 game. I mean there could be a deliberate plan to rotate a bit more.

I really enjoyed Cox's innings though, feels like a good bit of scouting to get him as a bit of an aggressive like for like at 4. New look top 4 with Westley this season in Elgar, Khushi and Cox.
