Bit early for this. We've won 22/32 this season, the same as Man City and more than Liverpool. We are in the QF of the champions league with a fair shot at going through. It looks like we might come up short in the league but we've given it a great go. I wonder how many points Timber would have been worth, who looked a super player in by far our weakest position

But yeah, I would say if we dont win a trophy this season again we need to progress next year. Arteta needs to look at Pep and how he manages to keep his squad fresh over a season, but lets not forget they also spend an absolute fortune improving their squad every year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not every year to be fair, we’re not even in the top five for net spend the last five years and second for the last ten years.

It’s more how we play than just squad rotation, we don’t expend as much energy generally as some others do.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Net spend is bollox though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In most cases I agree but not in the context of us spending a fortune on our squad.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
You have indeed spent hundreds of millions more than anyone not called Manchester United or Chelsea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not in the last five years we haven’t. Others have spent more improving their squad, which was the point I was replying to.

Note I said also - we've spent tons as well yeah and have progressed but we started at a much lower baseline than City, who progress every season as well. Arteta & co have had to shift some absolute deadwood.

Unfortunately I think it’s only a matter of time before you win a title - in the next 2-3 season without a doubt.

I can’t see Liverpool remaining this competitive after Klopp leaves. City will surely suffer a points deduction in the next season or two. Chelsea won’t compete for a long time, which leaves us, Newcastle and Man United as the other potential challengers, all of which are way behind Arsenal and have so much ground to make up,

Even if you don’t win anything next season, if you remain at a similar level to this you’d be stupid to sack him. And I doubt you will.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We may not be as competitive under Klopp but we’ll still be a lot closer than Spurs.

Not sure about that, Salah and Klopp going and us able to spend the same amount as Liverpool these days presents an opportunity for us. Pre Klopp we were finishing above you. In the Klopp era we finished above you.

Liverpool realistically have to replace Klopp, Salah and VVD this summer - that is some ask

This isn’t a Tottenham vs Arsenal Pizzing contest. My point was Arteta reminds me of Poch, the team he has built is great but hasn’t won anything and I’m not sure he is the man to get you over the line.

The team that won the FA cup is unrecognisable to the current Arsenal side, it was effectively Emerys team

Not too concerned about Salah he’s not been himself since ACON and we’ve done remarkably well until the last couple of games.

We’re also 20 points ahead of Spurs, who have been able to focus on the league all season while we’ve gone deep in all competitions. The gap is huge between the two teams and I don’t think Spurs are improving as fast as the fans would seem to think so.

The gap is 11 points not 20.

The likelihood of Liverpool improving in their first season post Klopp is low, the likelihood of Spurs improving in their second season with Ange is quite high.

Bookmark, I fancy we will finish above you next year. Can do a bet if you want?

I personally think you can probably get another season out of Van Dijk losing Salah will be a problem long term but they will find a solution. Tottenham are coming from a lower base and realistically will have to sign four really good players to just stand still. If Tottenham finish fourth or fifth next season that would be a good season as they've had it easy this season in terms of number of games.

I am not sure how anyone can question Arteta now! His job was to get us competing for the title and continuously qualifying for the CL. He has done that. Hopefully winning trophies will happen along the journey. No one can guarantee that! Especially not in a time when a truly great manager like Pep is given unparalleled riches to play fantasy manager.

Arteta has built a great team, but is he the man to drag it over the trophy winning line? I’m not sure, has a touch of the Poch’s about him.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eh?

Arteta has won trophies, Poch didn't win any with Tottenham
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Arteta won an FA cup in his first season against Lampards Chelsea with what was Emery’s Arsenal side
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So he dragged a team over the trophy winning line

Unlike Poch.

No comparison between the two.

tbf that was more anthony taylor than arsenal

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure about that, Salah and Klopp going and us able to spend the same amount as Liverpool these days presents an opportunity for us. Pre Klopp we were finishing above you. In the Klopp era we finished above you.

Liverpool realistically have to replace Klopp, Salah and VVD this summer - that is some ask
----------------------------------------------------------------------
VVD?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Getting old, he has just dipped the last 18 months, since the World Cup and is back amongst the mere mortals
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s been one of the best defenders in the league all season. Weird comment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
personally think hes been pretty poor whenever ive seen him
