If the article is correct I think that's a real shame as he was an incredibly exciting cricketer to watch, and it has further weakened a Sri Lanka team in transition which can't be good for the overall health of the game although I guess from an England perspective it may make things slightly easier. With Malinga, Murali and Matthews now all gone who does the Sri Lanka bowling attack turn to? The names Kulasekera, Lakmal and Randiv likely strike as much fear into an opposition test batting line up as Sreesanth, Sharma and Singh.
Angelo Matthews is no longer an all rounder

His bowling was never up to test standards even when he was fit.

The poor guy has been injury prone for a while so it's not a great surprise. Having now to concentrate on his batting might turn him into a real top notcher.

I thought he was a good 5th bowling option,1 who balanced out the side well, similar to watson for australia. Plus he still had quite a few years to develop.

He was a very average bowler and is a selfish batsman when he bats with the tail.
Feel sorry for him that injury has hampered him, but he didn't look like he'll make it at test level even when fully fit.
Good limited overs player though and may be a future ODI Captain.
