Premiership....worlds best ?

Despite being Scottish I openly admit that I do enjoy watching the premiership as the level of football is significantly higher than the SPL.

However when I listen to the English media continually banging on about it 'being the best league in the world' I have to admit it always makes me cringe.

You only have to look at the semi's of the Champions and Europa League competitions to see that 5 out of the 8 teams remaining are Spanish and only 1 is flying the flag for the premiership.

There's no doubt the premiership offers passion and excitement in abundance but there is a serious lack of technical ability from many teams which in my opinion leaves the premiership well and truly in the shadows of La Liga.

That being said I now find myself becoming increasingly bored with Barca running teams ragged week in, week out. It is a joy to watch lower league sides in La Liga compete against each other because you then see how much ability players have and are not afraid to get the ball down and play football the way its supposed to be played.

Until the premiership sides adopt these basic principals they will remain in La Liga shadows.

it just depends on what you define as best, in terms of technical ability La liga would certainly win but in terms of sheer entertainment with end to end football then you would have to say the PL

It makes me cringe when they talk about the PL as the only league where you get results like 8-2, 6-1 etc between the big clubs. The Eredivisie has big scores like that all the time, and to be fair it is a lot harder to call the Dutch league than the English. Far more teams contest for the title and little teams beat the big teams on at least a similar rate to the PL.

And all the BS about the PL being special because of all the late goals. Every league has the same.

Tends to go in cycles, a few years ago the PL probably was the best, in terms of getting teams to the later stages of the CL. Though it would usually be a club from another league that would win it.

I think the Spanish league has done enough to be called the best at the moment but I don't think the English teams will do anywhere near as badly in the CL next year.

I don't think the big teams really care about the EL...

Think it is still quite easily second though... England may be having a particularly bad year but the Germans or Italians aren't really doing that much better...
