Which team has this season performed the worst Bottle job.
A) Arsenal: No trophies again. Out of the CL early. Never in the title race. 8-2 demolision at Old Trafford.
B) Manchester United: CL group of Basel, Benfica and still couldn't make it through the group stages.
C) Liverpool: The return of King Kenny and £100m spent on players yet languising midtable. 20+ years without a league triumph and counting.
D) Manchester City: £500m spent on quality talent. 8 point lead on top. Now 8 points behind United with an imploding squad.
E) Tottenham Hotspur: 13 point gap. NL power shift and all that. Harry Redknapp linked to England job. And now a collapse.
F) Chelsea: Villas-Boas was the man to take Chelsea forwards. Mourinho II. But poor results plus player uprising and Roman bottled his project.
Decide. Disguss. Debunk.

How many times! Arsenal were never going to win anything this season ffs! Do people not remeber all the doom and gloom around the club in the summer?! We'd just lost a world class CAM and our best player, Fabregas. No right minded Arsenal fan expected us to win anything this season, and since the 8-2, Arsenal's season has (so far) been an unqualified success.
Btw- Liverpool biggest bottlers for me, all of the pundits at the start of the season were saying they'd finish top 4 at Arsenal's expense, and look what's happened

What a defeatist attitude, but not surprising. The team believes it and now the fans believe it.
There was absolutely no reason that you couldn't have won a cup. We won the CC and you're better than us. LIverpool, Everton, Chelsea or Spurs may win the FA CUp, and arguably you are better than all of them.
Anyway I'm off to watch my team lose to Blackburn.

Listen, if it were any other season I'd agree with you, Arsenal should have one both the PL and the CC in 2010/11, no doubt about it, we bottled it. But, after the heart had been ripped out of our team, this season was just different to all the others in terms of fans' expectations. Also, how can you call me 'defeatist' before going on to say 'Anyway I'm off to watch my team lose to Blackburn'?! Talk about hypocrisy.

A very small minority of fans (who aren't trying to justify a unsucessful season) would take a carling cup win over a CL place. If you want the best players and progression the CL is the place to be. If not you will find it far harder to attract the top talent so top players become harder bring in and you can get stuck in a cycle...

That doesn't necessarily work though. Over the years Arsenal have lost their players even though they were in the CL. For some players making up numbers in the CL isn't enough for them, as the better players want to win things.
It is arguable that had Arsenal won a cup or two in the last 7 years players like Toure, Nasri, Clichy, Flamini, Hleb might not have left.
Arsenal have been in the CL as long as I can remember but they are no closer to winning it, or any closer to winning the league.

I highly doubt a solitary Carling cup win would have done anything to halt players leaving Arsenal. I think only a few really went onto better clubs. The likes of Hleb and Fabregas, one went home the other went to a place with lovely weather and more chance of glory (In Europe and at home) some had problems with the club, some were attracted by the project city were building and some just plain wanted a wage rise...
It would only be title winning teams (and potential title winning) that would really be seen as more attractive by players than a club like Arsenal (talking about domestic clubs here)
Unless your thought of as building something which Man City clearly were then you can't attract players without offering huge sums of money, which City had to do anyway even though they were clearly on an upwards trajectory...
Do you think if Birmingham had stayed up last season that all the players they were going for would turn down all the other teams that finished around them in the league simply because they managed a Carling cup win?
Even if a club like Arsenal wasn't a players dream move it would be a good place to go to showcase your talent on the biggest stage (the CL) and attract the huge clubs, whereas only being in the EL isn't the same.
