I like him. I really do, as a person and as a manager. I'm really glad he is the manager of NFFC.
I've never been one of these 'told you so' people, but I've stuck with him since day 1, and I honestly feel he has done a sterling job with us. It went wrong for a month or 2, and we had a dreadful losing streak, but given that we had about 10 players injured, 2 fit defenders and low morale following McLarens tenure, I don't think there are many managers out there that could have gotten us many points on the board during that time. People might say this is down to O'Driscoll, but it was Cotterill who brought him into the club, and hopefully given the chance in the Summer, he can bring in more backroom staff who will help us out further.
He has clearly demonstrated that he is a good manager. In January, he got rid of 2 players, brought in a handful of loan signings, and we have been one of the best teams in the division since (prior to today we were 4th in the form league judged on the last 8 games .. fact!). He has gotten the best out of some fringe players, and he has us playing as a competitive unit. He doesn't whinge and moan at what he doesn't have, he just gets on with the job with the resources he has.
I sincerely hope he is kept on next year, and given the finances (somehow) to build a team capable of promotion. I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be, I have upmost faith in him, and am glad he is at our helm. Long may it continue.

cotterill has almost achieved what he was recruited to achieve and assuming we do stay up,
_______
Is that true?
Did anyone ever say to him "just keep us up" on the day McClaren left if I'd have posted an article saying, if the new manager can just keep us up he's donea great job. Hardly anyone would have agreed, baring in mind when McClaren was moaning about the squad, most on here were saying he'd been backed and the squad was better than the previous two seasons.
Now all of sudden SC was brought in just to keep us up. Football fans have shorter memories than goldfish.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
what do you think he was brought in to achieve sutton? have you seen anything at any stage of this season that suggested we were in anything but a relegation battle? he came in with no squad, no money and no hope with the attitude key players displayed for much of the season.
i'm far from a cotterill fan but you're so blind to the reality you've got no business whatsoever telling other fans what's what.

____________
I think he was brought in to get the best out of what he's got. I'm asking the question, did anyone say to him "your job is just to keep us up"?
I don't think they did. I'm also asking people to think back to when McClaren was moaning and think about what they thought then. To think about when he left and to think about what they thought the squad was capable of back then.
Cotterill came in with no money, fair enough. But at the start of the season this forum was full of people telling me McClaren didn't need any more money. That what he already had was plenty, he'd been backed as much as was reasonable and if he did his job right that this squad could challenge. Many believed it better than the squad that had finished in the top 6 two seasons running. Now the same people seem to be telling me just staying up is a big achievement. I'm not saying we should be in the top 6 just that we should have done much better.
Im just being consistent in my views. Sorry if that annoys people but it's the way I am.

Sorry to interject, but you do come across in a 'blinkered' way Sutton.
You've previously said that you base your judgement of Cotterill on his historical managerial record. This in itself suggests that despite what he achieves at Forest, you will not change your mind. This is consistent, granted, but just not in a very fair way

Not purely on is historical record but thats a big part of it, yes. Surely that's the opposite of blinkered? Isn't it more blinkered to just look at the last few games? As I always say it's looking at all the information available and making a decision based on that. It might mean your less likely to change your mind, maybe you could say stubborn. But I don't think blinkereds fair.

Just to add to that, Hoons I don't think he's achieved anything at Forest and don't think he ever will. That's why I hope he's replaced. Let's say I'm wrong and he stays and we have a great season. Does that make him a good manager? Not nessaserily, Dowie took Palace up, Boothryd took Watford and was supposed to be the next big thing. They had a good season would you want them as our manager? I wouldn't.
It will take a lot for Cotterill to change my mind and for me to believe he's a good manager, but I want what's best for the club. And if we were to start doing well it might be best he stays. Despite what some think I dont dislike Cotterill personally and I'll happily hold my hands up and say I'm wrong if that's proven to be the case.

cotterill is never going to take us to the premier league but credit where it's due. we've looked a relegation certainty at various points of this season.
i've been critical of him at times but i said at the start that if he keeps this team up he'll have done a good job. once the loan players go back he's going to have a job on to keep us up next season as well looking at who's going to be under contract at this point

Apart from Sutton, it's nice to see done support coming in at last on here. Steve's done a good job and has to be given a chance to show what he can do from the start of a season.

Football fans get angry when clubs make rash decisions and don't follow a long term plan. Yet your happy that fans changed their opinions after every other result.
When i first said Cotterill should go i got hammered and no one agreed. A few weeks later most agreed. Now I'm back to being the bad fan and no one agrees. It's so fickle, if we lose the last 3 and i post a Cotterill out article plenty will agree, if we win them I'd get hammered again. Cotterill won't be a better or worse than he is now, regardless of our last 3 results.

There are lots of fans who have always liked Cotterill, appreciated he was given a nigh impossible task when he took on the job, and are finally pleased he is getting some recognition. Just not on a lot of the football forums it seems, but then again, the majority of fans probably don't post of forums.

If you say so. But that's not what I've found. I've never spoken to a Forest fan that wanted Cotterill as manager or that thinks he done a good job. Obviously I've seen people on here or exchanged tweets with people that do think Cotterills done a good job. But there are some Forest fans that would think Hitler was brilliant if someone decided to give him the Forest managers job.
