Paul Green has rejected a new contract offer and therefore will not play in any of Derby's remaining two games, BBC Radio Derby understands.
This is a big blow to our chances next season. He's obviously got somewhere else lined up...
Green gone

Me , old fashioned , I would play my best eleven every time , fans pay to see the best team available , the lad would have given his all and we could have given him a proper send off.
Only my opinion .

We try to make more of this than there is. For the people involved it's just business. Clough took pains to compliment Green for his contribution and wish him the best in the future. Green obviously doesn't want his wages to fall but I have no doubt understands that Derby's player budget now is very different to what it was when he was bought by Jewell.
I remember some fans talking nonsense about Clough forcing Varney out by treating him badly, when a similar sort of thing applied-his wages were more than the club could afford. Again I noticed at the time how Clough made a point of saying what a great professional Varney had been while at Derby, and similarly Varney had only good things to say about Clough and Derby when he moved on. After today's game I noticed Varney and Clough embracing and having a little chat-they just understand how things are and get on with the job. Clough has to manage his budget as best he can and players like Green and Varney have to worry about where their next contract is coming from.
No conspiracy, just life, move on.

A tight budget means the manager is under pressure to justify why a player deserves a new contract. Other factors come into the equation: like the player probably wanted assurances about starting in his preferred position; the manager cannot give this.
Green's suffered a serious injury and his game is built on fitness & energy. At 29, he has reached his peak and Derby's game-plan under Clough is built on high energy/pressing game, often in the absence of genuine quality.
We will miss Green's energy, but let's wait and see what happens. Maybe we have a replacement lined up who is a genuine right-sided player (creative) and in addition this position might be supplemented by another youngster offering competition alongside an in-coming player.
I also think, as someone else highlighted on another thread, we need another type of midfielder, a ball-winner, someone maybe with a bit of aggression to put opposition players on their haunches & shield the back four, even more important now Barker is out, whereas I think Hendrick, who has received criticism for not being aggressive in the tackle, should be allowed to press forward & create.

Many very interesting comments. I wish Paul well and hope he flourishes. He has done well for us and I, for one, have no complaints. And I'm sorry he is leaving. But life goes on and I hope and expect that we'll replace him with another Bryson or Hendrick.
However I wonder why such nonsense is being laid at Nigel's door. It's just good sense to play other players instead of Green now we know he will no longer figure. Far better to give others a chance. To call that small minded is ridiculous. Any manager in the world would and should do the same.
Anyway - good luck Paul Green.

I heard from a good source Green was on £10k/week
The new contract offered him £5k/week.
Hence he left

£5,000 per week is a hell of a lot of money for playing football. I know it pales into insignificance with premiership wages but nevertheless it's a very good living.
The days of DCFC being in a position to offer silly money to players is over. You only have to look at Pompey to see the end result!

Elland Road.
Didn't they get bought for £1 recently due to having big debts? If they can pay £10k a week good luck to the player who collects it. But we don't want to finish up like Leeds do we?
