Modric

I see a lot of fans are eager for us to sign him this summer, as an end to our lack of midfield creativity. Am I the only one who thinks hes maybe slightly overrated?

I mean, he always seems to look busy and useful, but he doesnt really do anything. Ok he scored a very nice goal last night, but thats his fourth goal of the season. John Terry has five! Alright, so he's a midfielder, and his top job isnt to score, but he's hardly leading the assists table either, with an almighty 6. Wes Hoolahan has as many.

At the end of the day, stats are how a player is truly judged, and Modric's stats arent particularly impressive

Why would we waste money on a player who just passes to wingers.
____________

One could argue that this is mostly what Scholes does these days. How many assists does Scholes get?

This is the biggest problem with our midfield imo. If the wingers don't play well we look impotent because all our threat comes from wide positions. No plan B when that fails.

This has been the case for 3-4 years now. We are the opposite of Barca - they like to play only through the middle while Utd only likes to play behind full backs and whip crosses in.

Fergie's comment after the City game annoyed me. He said that it was disappointing we failed to test the keeper. He then said this was because our crossing wasn't good enough...

Someone please remind Fergie that there are other ways to score goals apart from crosses!!! When he remembers that, only then will we see an improvement in our style of play, let alone any CM signings.

maybe fergie is completely losing the plot.
playing park and giggs against city may suggest that

surely he must remember being outplayed by 10 men at Etihad in the FA Cup ?

comment by GregUnited - filtering is for the weak! (U1192)
Spurs against us at White Hart Lane completely dominated us because of the midfield, their strikers were awful though - hardly Modrics fault
===========================

Spurs dominated us in midfield and it was Livermore and Sandro. Sandro didn't give our midfielders any time on the ball whatsoever.

Luka, the midfield maestro was asked to play wide in that game and did fk all.

I find it amusing that such a key midfield maestro is not asked to play in his preferred position against a team with a weak midfield.

Really strange. The same thing happened in the FA cup game and Norwich as well.

Song and co at Arsenal also made him look like a deer in headlights.

I would take him on a free as he would be a good squad player but anything over 16m would be a colossal waste of money

Wasn't Rooney asked to play in CM this season?

Rooney was asked to play in Cm this season due to injuries.

Modric, the midfield God was moved wide to accomodate better players

we should nick sandro, bale and van der vart from spurs

So when Modric was playing left, where was Bale?

bale was injured

Exactly. ManUtdDare can't see how hypocritical his statement is.

We played our best striker in CM because he is versatile, they played their best midfielder on the left because he is versatile.

Both were playing out of position because of injuries.

SLM, Bale played in the game against Bolton and Modric played wide too.

Rooney is versatile but the point is this. Modric is so superb in Midfield according to you and in a critical game was moved wide. Spurs had Lennon and Kranjcar on the bench so if they needed wide men they could have played them.

There's no hypocrisy in my statement. It's quite simple Modric the midfield maestro isn't considered good enough to feature against top sides and is moved aside to play Sandro who performs against top sides.

For some reason you also ignore his shocking performances against all the other teams I mentioned when he played in his preferred position. Looking great against a team heading for relegation is nice. What does he do against the best? Fk all!

As for the pass, I've seen Ando create some excellent goals, e.g. Welbeck against Arsenal this season. Carrick as well and do not get me started on Scholes.

You like him, I get it, you need to appreciate that some of us do not rate him and we have evidence to back this up.
