Just a quick line regarding yesterday the 8th May 2012, i was in hospital in Birmingham for a liver biopsy and then had to recouperate on the ward for 6hrs before being allowed home, the man in the bed opposite me was Alan Jones the former Nuneaton Borough defender and captain from the 60's and 70's. Now some of you from that era will probably remember him as a tough, uncomprimising defender who generally made life very difficult for the Albion. Kirk Stephens eventually replaced him at full back and he finished his career at AP Leamington then in the Conference and a few games at the end at Tamworth when they were in the Northern Premier league.
We reminised over many players from the era from both clubs and some that had played for both. The time flew by and we struck up a real comaradery. It was a real pleasure to share such memories.
Just as a chuckle to you old regulars above all the first name he mentioned was that of Phil Annable !!! It would seem Phil left his mark every where !!!
To be honest i could write you a list of those covered from Les Green and Stan Aston up to the late 70's. It turned out to be a great day.

Hope you're going on all right Terraceman. The one non-footballing thing I remember about Phil Annable was that if you wanted to keep your money you didn't play cards with him. In the dark days of 70-71 when the Albion were nearly liquidated, 3 mates of mine and myself used to travel to away matches on the team coach ( we paid for the privilege). There was always a card school going with the players on the coach and Phil a brilliant card player was never out of pocket. He was a brilliant player too and if we'd've had someone like him and also the likes of Micky Allsop, playing for us last season, things would have been very different I think.

Yes i travelled occasionally on the players coach and that was always the case Annable winning at cards !
We certainly do with someone of that mould now.
As a young lad I was walking to the ground one night match with my scarf on when a car pulled up and offered me a lift to the ground which i accepted, took me a few minutes to realise it was Micky Allsopp ! he took me into meet the players in the changing rooms too ! My mates saw me and were dead jealous i remember.
Fat chance of that happening today !
