England's Logic defies belief!

That squad is truly astounding....ly poor! How can anyone justify the selection of Stewart Dowing above Lennon? One player was influential in helping his team gain Champions League football and the other failed to score one league goal.

I'm no football expert, but i'm sure there is a better way to manage England. How about selecting players who have experience in playing big matches and more importantly winning them. Then with a nice foundation of experience sprinkle some young and dynamic talent who will will later become England's spine. I give for example, Micheal Carrick. So many people overlook him. Yet, he has been arguably Manchester United's most important midfielder this season. Moreover, he has one multiple premier league's, a champions league, Carling cup.

But what boggles me most of all is our managers insistence on playing players merely on ability. By this mean, just because a player like Steven Gerrard is better than Carrick, it doesn't mean playing Gerrard is best for the team. (not suggesting this should happen by the way. just an extreme example.)

Why not make this our starting line up...

---Hart----------
Richards-----Smalling----- Ferdinand------Cole
Young-----Gerrard-----Barry-------Ox.Chamberlain
------------Welbeck--------Rooney

This is a team, made of a spine of the two Manchester clubs,(the two best over the season). With the inclusion of Gerrard, Ox and Cole. Does anyone else feel like England like are a just a bunch of individuals with no real understanding of how each player plays, moves etc? Because i do, and i think by having a stem of one/two teams that problem would fixed. They would understand each other.

Obviously, that line up is an EXAMPLE. Not suggesting it has to be that.

What do you guys think of this idea?

Downing plans on the left, Lennon right. No justifying needed. Cleared up with one foul swoop.

-----

Young plays on left so there's no need for Downing at all, take another Striker rather that waste a squad space on Downing.

Well then no need for the squad then. Just send eleven players.

What an idiot.

Spain, Germany, Argentina, Netherlands, Croatia - all teams who have had much more success than we have lately; none play with wingers in 4-4-2 system. What does that tell you?!

Notice those teams don't have the name England. Different teams play different systems.

None of the top club teams play 442 either; it is outdated x

Nobody said anything about 4-4-2 anyhow. England have been having good success with 4-3-3 lately.

i don't think this team will win much, i agree about Lennon think Micah should have been given a go Lescott is better than Terry so why not try for a younger defender to take his place Carrick could have been considered too. Still for mediocre results and a sacking 18 months down the line its perfect, then try again for harry.

Downing has had a bad season, hardly a shot on goal, hardly a decent cross, i'm sure even Liverpool fans would find it hard to argue with that, i just think woy has opted for safety first,as he came in so late he can't be blamed if we don't do anything. But surely he should be playing with the next world cup in mind. Let the youth blossom and learn the game while nothing is expected of them, let them learn at the top level and prepare for the future.
