Hello all

I am a new member of this forum & this is my first article. Well my question is how do fellow manchester united fans rate this season? Personally this has been a poor season just because we gave away 8 point lead.Yes there were injuries but it's unacceptable for a club of our stature.I am not considering the CL because a clubs success for me is measured by it's position in the domestic league.Thoughts?

On the league front, i think it mar a good season, with a higher points total than i would have expected. Disappointing to lose out on the league from such a commanding position obviously but over 38 games it was a good season. Pretty sure it's the highest ever points tally for a runner up in English top flight history too, which is a very very small consolation.

In the cups we didn't really perform. Being drawn away to our 2 greatest rivals in the FA Cup in the first 2 rounds we entered probably shows it wasn't to be in that competition this year. And i actually thought we played well at Anfield in defeat, certainly far better than when we drew there in the league. The Carling Cup is what it is. We don't prioritise it and our selections showed that. But the team we fielded against Palace showed no fight and were complacent and in truth, it was a very poor display. Europe was by absolute disaster. We got it wrong in every department, from manager to players.

All in all, United are judged on trophies won, so it has to go down as our poorest season in recent times. The hardest thing to take though is how our players continually failed to step up to the plate when it mattered most. That's a worrying trait that has come in in recent seasons and regardless of ability and something we wouldn't have seen in previous united teams. Now, more than ever, i believe a real leader is needed on the pitch to ensure that such complacency isn't repeated.

Qualified for champions league, dont take that for granted

would you rather finish 6th and be champions of europe and the fa cup or finish 2nd with nothing

united and city finishing with the same number of points with our respective squads and contrasting injury lists was a far greater achievement for us than them.

Greg- thats a hard one. But i would prefer the cl. Afterall 20 years down the line everybody would think that as a CL winning campaign.

Question is, who had a better season: Bayern Munich or Chelsea? Bayern certainly did better than us this season, but I'd say Chelsea did better than them.

chelsea have had a better season than any other club in europe, and that would be the case even if they hadn't won the fa cup as well.

That's an arguable point ole. The champions league is the big one but i maintain that winning it AND your domestic league in the same season is the measure of true greatness. Finishing more than 20 points behind the champions having played every team home and away tells a story.

obviosly winning both the league and the champions league would be a greater achievement, but no-one has done that this season, therefore chelsea have had the best season of any side in europe.
