The Project

Hello guys, couldn't help but notice how Villas Boas refers to his next job as finding the right 'project.' It would seem that he is looking for the same thing the Liverpool owners are in his manner of speak. I'm not saying I am pleased at this, but if he gets an interview I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the job based on his approach to a new job and the owners criteria of having someone young with ambition. AVB is looking to forge a new dynamic attacking side which is relatively young. Chelsea was the worst place to do that for him. Liverpool now does look like a good base ground for such a project and the owners want someone like that don't they? Anyway I was thinking out loud and wondered whether you lot think based on the wording of AVB's response to touted interviews with Liverpool that he would fit the American's bill perfectly? But not necessarily Liverpool's.

I do have my reservations, if someone can fail that badly at Chelsea then it doesn't fill me with hope for Liverpool, but I think I'd prefer AVB to an unproven lower league manager like Martinez. At least AVB has one a treble albeit in Portugal, but he has had a taste nonetheless and I'm sure he doesn't have to tell you it was sweet.

mr chelsea, i do think he could be a very good manager though. I know he failed at chelsea, but surely if you win 3 trophies in 1 year at Porto you can't be bad?

Lfcbow. He could be good. No doubt. You don't win a treble by not having some sort of potential but his time at chelsea was littered with one disaster after another. Tactical mistakes, wrong line ups being picked, didn't handle the media that well, horribly mismanaged some of our players like lampard, torres, lukaku, kalou, mikel. He even told drogba he's finished at the start of the season. Fat jan already said it. He had an overinflated opinion of himself and pretty much was a one man wrecking machine at chelsea until he was sacked.

I don't know too much about the ins and outs of his time at porto so can't comment on it. I can only go by what he did at chelsea and the bad outweighed the good let's put it that way

AVB hmmm... Chelseas current squad didnt match his long term ambitions!

He maybe was above his station a bit and wanted to install his authority straight away so he could justify his 12 million move lol...

Really he should be thinking squad first then tactics, as his new tactics were never gonna happen with the current squad! He should of slowly but surely implemented his ideas...

Its like when Rafa came in to Liverpool, he assessed the situation at Liverpool made a couple of signings, but very gradually imposed himself as a excellent tactiction and won the CL. But towards the end of his reign he wouldnt change he got way too stubborn and would rarely change his system to reflect the squad, as Torres and Gerrard were injured a lot and Alonso was gone, but Rafa never changed anything lol...

Anyway back to AVB, he would need to be very intelligent to his plans and signings an d I would like to have a good defensive coach come back to the club, because that high line would cost us another system IMO!

AVB was bought in to do a job because of a perception of his talent being that good, a bit like mourinho, it's not like roman is backwards at coming forwards when he wants something done in a particular way, so I guess the issues were really down to man management. All well and good blaming tactics constantly but it's players that put balls in the back of the net or not, if your team isn't buying into your tactics because of you as a person, well, it just sounds like cloughie at leeds all over again

AVB would do a splendid job at Liverpool long term,If he is offered the job.
