Nani is our Ronaldo

I'm sick and tired of hearing a small number of our fans wanting Nani to be sold; exchanged for another player who is either not as good as Nani or who wouldn't be much of a gain for us. The latest fan of ours was suggesting that we should "exchange Nani and Evra for Modric." That quote speaks for itself.

Ronaldo is a world class player who will go on to have a magnificent career wherever he ends up after Madrid, I'm sure of that. He was the best player at United, but that doesn't mean we can't be better off without him. Why? Because we have Nani. Our whole system is based on him. So, when the inevitable happens and he gets injured or dropped, we lack creativity and spark, because we have no plan B. This means we are bound to struggle in games which he doesn't feature in.

Fergie knows what he's doing, he would never retire with our squad like this. So calm down guys. None of us heard of Nani or Ronaldo before Fergie announced his interest. Now look at them, Ronaldo is the 2nd best player in Spain and Nani is the best winger in the PL. Patience and time is key in finding the right player; there's no point in rushing and overspending like our neighbours.

I have a lot of admiration for Nani. He has never shown a lack of respect to anybody at United. He has never done anything that would disrupt or cause a problem in the dressing room, he was happy coming off the bench during his 1st and 2nd season at United. The reason why he struggled this season is simply because of the lack of creativity in the middle of the park which leads me to believe that securing the services of Kagawa will revive that spark we had during the Ronaldo days.

Nani has scored vital goals for us in the past. No player or manager at United is bigger than the club, but Nani is simply that one player who is capable of creating chances out of nothing which is why he shouldn't be dropped for no reason. Dropping him out of the CL final is a recent example of how important he is to the club. Nani is and will be always be our Ronaldo unless he does a Ronaldo.

we all know valencia is an absolute beast on the right, but if we give nani a consistent run on the right we all know to well he is a shade ahead of valencia.

the dilemma as I see it is valencia as an uncanny ability to hit top form within a very few games after any setback (benched/injury) where as nani takes a few games to do so.

that video highlights the fact 90% of nani's best play comes when he is on the right

Nani is without doubt my favourite player. He should definately be number 7 next season. I would be absolutely gutted if he left.
People say he's inconsistent but hes never 'bad', just not great by his own very high standards. There are very few players we could exchange him for that would improve him. Infact, apart from the obvious 2, there arguably isn't anyone.

grass always appear greener

last week I created a controversial thread and you would be surprised some people were happy to see us sell nani to accommodate hazard

what madness

Nani needs more consistancy, after named Player of the year last season he was very hungry getting more consistancy to his game, but injuries have ruined it, what started so well.

Wouldn't complain getting a midfielder who could play him better either. I believe a Modric type of player also would have freshen up Berbatovs career, but that's another story. Don't forget our poor right side, Rafael was injuried at the start of the season, and Smalling/Jones is CBs not RBs.. So wouldn't worry to much, Nani is a hungry player with an eye for the goal, also assist wise.

It's more to come.

First off welcome to the board.

Now to the comment...

I wonder if most people voting on this article are not getting much further than the first paragraph, which of course 99% of right minded fans would agree with.

However, I struggle to see why there is so much support beyond it. Let's start with the 2nd paragraph.

You start by saying you're sure that Ronaldo will go on to have a magnificent career wherever he ends up after Madrid, no shock prediction there of course, who wouldn't think that, but you then say the reason Manchester United can be better without him is because of Nani! I'm a fan of Nani but why are you saying United are better or can be better without Ronaldo because of Nani specifically?

You then say Manchester United's whole system of play is based around Nani. I couldn't disagree more, and ironically you could argue that one potential benefit of Ronaldo leaving could be to create a team that is less reliant on one player, because our team was far more based around Ronaldo. This is what SAF has tried to do imo since he left, and one of the big strengths of this side is its team ethos rather than any individual.

I also found is strange that you said we struggled in the games Nani didn't feature. If we analyse this Nani featured in 29 league games (5 as sub) and these include:

Our draws with Benfica away, our draw with Stoke, our home draw with Basle and our away loss, our draw with Liverpool, our home and way losses to City, our loss to Blackburn, our loss to Newcastle, our loss to Wigan, and our draw with Everton.

Of course Nani wasn't to blame, there were much bigger factors, such as our CM, lack of defensive strength as a team, full backs switching off etc. However I don't think this leaves enough other bad results (if any) that you claim were because Nani wasn't on the pitch.

Nani is not, and never has been, our Ronaldo. He's our Nani, and if you mean in terms of how vital he is to the team, then if anyone is that vital in this current team orientated side, it's Rooney. Particularly given how hard he works for the team, the way our players respond to his ethic, his star attraction amongst fans, and not least his goals as shown last season with 34 in 43 games from a deep forward position.

Thank God someone is talking some sense.

I said in another article that Nani was one of our top 3 players at the club and got slated for it.

People who are asking for new wingers such as Gaitan/Robben should realise we already have a better option in Nani.

Imagine if Nani had been playing in Portugal all this time. SO MANY clubs would want to sign him, because to be quite honest he is world class on his day.

Yes he is not the most consistent player, but so many people over-exaggerate his inconsistencies. And to suggest Young or Valencia are better wingers is foolish.

He is still inconsistant.

No matter what the fans think of him, he is and will always be the winger at Man United.
