"exchange Nani and Evra for Modric."

Nani is our most naturally gifted player (might be just behind Berbatov, but he's on his way out). I would hate for him to leave. Not only will that leave us a winger short. It will mean we will have 1 less player other teams are "scared" of.

He can beat any player as many times as he want, he can use both feet, he has a wonderful cross and a wonderful shot. He can also play on either wing, something Valencia is unable to do.

If he was to leave we would need to bring in a winger who is good enough to replace him. There are not many out there

I would argue that Rooney, rather than Nani, is the one who we base our system around. But I completely agree that the idea of selling Nani would be ridiculous.

The only wingers as good as nani are ribery and robben.
i would never want ribery at our club though, such a c\/nt that bloke.

to be honest, nani is probably better than both of them on his day.

this is not including Ronaldo by the way

Ronaldo will always be irreplaceable, Greg.

I think Nani will be a Juventus player before the season starts.

I love Nani, he's a fantastic winger and I just wish Toni can knock some sense into him and teach him how to be consistent. If he gets sold this window I'll cry, United is known for having top quality wingers and to lose our best winger would be a travesty. Hopefully he has a injury free season next year.

It's illogical to sell a winger to get a cm, in my opinion. But if we were going to sell him to get one Xavi and Iniesta are the only two I'd consider swapping him for (I know this won't ever happen), as they're the only two players I think would be worth their impact in the centre to lose Nani's impact on the wing.

If people get what I mean?

im sorry but nani is a mile behind ronaldo. i really think he goes missing to much in big games when he needed. he looks good when we playing well and beating a team well.

Nani goes missing in big games?
Hmmmmm, have to disagree with that

Next season we should start with nani on the right.

Last season he was brilliant, he found the consistency he needed following his best season the one prior.

I don't this season was his best, but if he can have two or three like last season, he would be up there with Robben imo.

Wouldn't want to sell him at all.

Nani is way better than Robben....

Robben is so predictable because hes one footed.
Nani is almost unstoppable sometimes, and looking at that video linked above is exactly why i love him

we all know valencia is an absolute beast on the right, but if we give nani a consistent run on the right we all know to well he is a shade ahead of valencia.

the dilemma as I see it is valencia as an uncanny ability to hit top form within a very few games after any setback (benched/injury) where as nani takes a few games to do so.

that video highlights the fact 90% of nani's best play comes when he is on the right

Nani is without doubt my favourite player. He should definately be number 7 next season. I would be absolutely gutted if he left.
People say he's inconsistent but hes never 'bad', just not great by his own very high standards. There are very few players we could exchange him for that would improve him. Infact, apart from the obvious 2, there arguably isn't anyone.

grass always appear greener

last week I created a controversial thread and you would be surprised some people were happy to see us sell nani to accommodate hazard

what madness

Nani needs more consistancy, after named Player of the year last season he was very hungry getting more consistancy to his game, but injuries have ruined it, what started so well.

Wouldn't complain getting a midfielder who could play him better either. I believe a Modric type of player also would have freshen up Berbatovs career, but that's another story. Don't forget our poor right side, Rafael was injuried at the start of the season, and Smalling/Jones is CBs not RBs.. So wouldn't worry to much, Nani is a hungry player with an eye for the goal, also assist wise.

It's more to come.

First off welcome to the board.

Now to the comment...

I wonder if most people voting on this article are not getting much further than the first paragraph, which of course 99% of right minded fans would agree with.

However, I struggle to see why there is so much support beyond it. Let's start with the 2nd paragraph.

You start by saying you're sure that Ronaldo will go on to have a magnificent career wherever he ends up after Madrid, no shock prediction there of course, who wouldn't think that, but you then say the reason Manchester United can be better without him is because of Nani! I'm a fan of Nani but why are you saying United are better or can be better without Ronaldo because of Nani specifically?

You then say Manchester United's whole system of play is based around Nani. I couldn't disagree more, and ironically you could argue that one potential benefit of Ronaldo leaving could be to create a team that is less reliant on one player, because our team was far more based around Ronaldo. This is what SAF has tried to do imo since he left, and one of the big strengths of this side is its team ethos rather than any individual.

I also found is strange that you said we struggled in the games Nani didn't feature. If we analyse this Nani featured in 29 league games (5 as sub) and these include:

Our draws with Benfica away, our draw with Stoke, our home draw with Basle and our away loss, our draw with Liverpool, our home and way losses to City, our loss to Blackburn, our loss to Newcastle, our loss to Wigan, and our draw with Everton.

Of course Nani wasn't to blame, there were much bigger factors, such as our CM, lack of defensive strength as a team, full backs switching off etc. However I don't think this leaves enough other bad results (if any) that you claim were because Nani wasn't on the pitch.

Nani is not, and never has been, our Ronaldo. He's our Nani, and if you mean in terms of how vital he is to the team, then if anyone is that vital in this current team orientated side, it's Rooney. Particularly given how hard he works for the team, the way our players respond to his ethic, his star attraction amongst fans, and not least his goals as shown last season with 34 in 43 games from a deep forward position.

Thank God someone is talking some sense.

I said in another article that Nani was one of our top 3 players at the club and got slated for it.

People who are asking for new wingers such as Gaitan/Robben should realise we already have a better option in Nani.

Imagine if Nani had been playing in Portugal all this time. SO MANY clubs would want to sign him, because to be quite honest he is world class on his day.

Yes he is not the most consistent player, but so many people over-exaggerate his inconsistencies. And to suggest Young or Valencia are better wingers is foolish.

posted on 31/5/12

He is still inconsistant.

posted on 31/5/12

No matter what the fans think of him, he is and will always be the winger at Man United.
