A pretty interesting article on Nicholas Anelka and his time in Shanghai (wow, a decent article by Goal.com for a change). Apparently his stint as player-manager isn't going on that well.
To be fair though Chinese football does seem to be a bit of a farce at the moment. I really don't get why talented players such as Drogba or Lucas Barrios (of Dortmund) would go there apart from the money. Some place like the MLS would be a much better option, they might earn a bit less but at least the standard of football is decent.

I think I read the chairman played himself as striker alongside Anelka?
Players make some strange choices just to make an extra few million they will never spend.... Some of the players going to the Eastern Russian team are crazy

He was definately still good enough to play at a top level, never mind the MLS' and Asian teams

Yup apparently the owner played alongside Anelka as a striker in a friendly game.

Agreed about the few extra millions thing.
Maybe it's because we haven't had a chance to choose, but I think it would be much better to play football at a more competitive level than go to a poor league just for the money.

I think Drogba will stay in europe. He still has a couple of years left in him at the top level!
