Hello all. probably get slated for this but here goes.
I have been reading about our midfield problems on here and suggested signings/replacements. Got to be honest and say that I dont always watch the foreign leagues as time is an issue for me. But love football and watch ANY match when I can
To the issue at hand, i have watched schweinsteiger a bit recently due to bayern and germany and in all honesty see a lot of similarities between him and ando (bar injuries). they both try and make things happen. difference is ando gets slated if it doesnt pay off. Also think ando is actually stronger on the ball and has more confidence than bastian. see the bouncing of nani v portugal and the not watching penalties in CL final
This is not to say he is a bad player, and he would certainly strengthen UTD. However is he better than what we have? injuries not included?
also seen Lahm and nani made him look a mug on a few occassions
thoughts?
schweinsteiger

Arab Elvis (U7425)
I had the same problem with my ankles. Torn my lateral in my ankle and then my other ankle kept giving way whenever I tried playing again.
Stick to 5 a side now, was sick of gravity bruising and limping into work every Monday morning, still gives me jip now, 5 years on.

Very true, the they are still human and I had ex England and Wolves physio work on my ankle.
It can't be an enjoyable experience being an injured footballer, physio is hard work and very painful.

sitting on the edge of a hospital bed in me undies twirling my feet watched by this humungous nurse. eeewww
last physio was a new zealander and was fit though
seriously though, my experience and the suffering later was what made me force my younger brother to do it all and he has benefitted

RedReason,
But does it matter what sort of injuries Ando has had? I.e. "run of the mill" or otherwise?
The fact is that the lad has picked up major injuries in each of the last 4 years. That obviously hasn't helped his development but the fact is that, even when "fit" he only seems capable of playing 60 min and his form is inconsistent.
Injuries have not helped hinm in this regard but I find it frustrating that we have a 24 year old (soon to be 25) and we are still talking about "potential" and "glimpses" of form.
According to many fans, Ando was signed as a replacement for Scholes. Does anyone really believe he is anywhere close to becoming that? Surely not. That may or may not be his fault but, from a fan's perspective, does it really matter whose fault it is?
For example, I don't care whether Owen or Hargreaves were to blame for their injury problems (probably not) but that doesn't change the fact that they weren't available/ready when we needed them and you can only tolerate that for so long.
For how many more years can we continue to hope that Ando maintain consistency of fitness and form before we take the decision to bring someon else in?
We never replaced Hargreaves, we still haven't replaced Scholes and there is every chance that we might be looking for a replacement for Ando sooner or later if his problems aren't sorted out. And that goes double for Fletcher!

I think Ando gets a lot of injuries due to his playing style. Combatative, presses quick, drives with the ball, very mobile and is quite small.
These types of players often suffer niggling muscular and ligament injuries.

I'm all for supporting our own players and I think Ando could still become a very good player if he manages to get over his fitness issues, but no way is he better (or even as good) as Schweinsteiger. BS is in a different league, he is excellent at controlling the tempo of a game whilst not letting the opposition play. Exactly the sort of player United need, and better than any of the midfielders we have on the books currently.
Don't base your judgement on a couple of poor games he's had, he is one of the top center-mids in the world and would walk into our lineup.
As for Lahm, I've rated him highly but he had a very poor game against Portugal. Nani got the better of him a number of times, and his passing was off too (lost possession on a number of occasions). If Portugal had a decent striker they might have scored as well.

I'm going to put the comparison in this article down to a bad prawn you might have eaten recently and move on without burning you.
However, be warned only one prawn excuse can ever be used.
