The tag for most deluded fans has been thrown about between Newcastle, Liverpool and Spurs in recent years but I don't think any of them warrant that tag more than England fans.
The stuff I read from them every tournament is unreal. Today on Facebook alone I've read that "England are better than France" and that "Spain and Italy are average". Now on various social networking sites and forums following the team news everybody is slamming Milner and Roy for selecting him.
Now opinions on players will always be divided but nobody can deny Walcott is better going forward than defending and same for Glen Johnson. Everybody bar Liverpool fans realises how culpable Johnson is at the back yet people are proposing he goes unprotected on the same side as Ukraines best player (after Shevchenko) plays on. This in a game where England are away from home in a game they can't afford to lose.
No offence to the guy but stuff I've read on here from Weare and others just reaffirms my view on England fans that they are just brainwashed by the media who have led them to believe that England are a cursed nation and blame everything from penalties, pitch altitude, heat, referees, linesmen and officials etc.
I don't think Hodgson or any England manager can succeed with a set of fans this clueless about football, my prediction of Redknapp being England manager by 2013 still stands
Are England fans the most delusional/thick?

Most English fans, in my opinion, think we're a fairly average side but one that could beat sides like Italy and Spain as a one off. We're excited about seeing our side work hard and play as a team, and we're excited at still being in with a shout of moving onto the quarter finals.

Absolutly spot on.

But the thing about England is we do have some of the best talent in the world. I don’t for one second buy the argument that the foreign influences in the top club teams cover up the weaknesses of the English players. Players like Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, etc… would get into all but the most technically proficient teams in the nation game. What we do have is an incredibly unbalanced team. Everything is pace and power, which is why we look SOOOO lethargic with the ball, and have great differently establishing control of any match containing a selection of technically sound players (e.g. Belgium at Wembley). And the fact as a group they’re given a limited time together, it makes pressing from deep extremely hard to perfect as a unit. So in essence, it presents us with massive difficulties at both sides of the game.

The OP is quote mining. Just cherry picking the quotes he wants. On the whole, England fans are not delusional and don;t blame everything on refs, pitch etc.
It will be the Ukrainians doing that tonight! I bet they show the goal-line incident without showing the offside.
