Well Done EDWARD CHORLTON !

I thought this subject would have provided 'debate' before now !
Well I say Well done Eddie Chorlton for a proposal aimed at ...
'Encouraging Sportsmanship above gamesmanship', & also well done 'TOWN' for being right behind the suggestions,
I noticed 'Town back leagues call for sportsmanship' with Clibbins adding immediate support.
saying... A core value at the club is 'respect' & we try to apply that ethos in every action we take, both on & off the field.

I like the sound of that.

Lets look at some of the topics discussed .

clamping down on 'Disrespect shown to match officials'.....thumbs up from me, Some of us have talked about this before, the obvious comparison being with the difference between Rugby league & football.

Actions that undermine a 'Sporting' culture, being ..
Diving,
Time wasting,
Feigning injury, also, obstructing the quick taking of free kicks, & stealing ground at throw ins.

On a personal level, I'm all for it, & don't subscribe to this..
'If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying' mindset.
I appreciate the above methods have very much become 'the norm' over the years, but if the new outlook can be implemented & maintained ... I for one will be a satisfied 'fan'.

Well done Mr Clibb'... now.
can we have as much effort put into Town fans having a 'standing section'
& show some respect for fans who wish to take advantage of this option, so we don't have to be disrespectful to those who wish to remain seated

It's all about choice, yeah, Lets 'provide' CHOICE.

Sick of telling you guys to sit the fack down every facking wk, blocking my kids view every facking wk, show some respect you fackink thugs.

Disappointed with that reply Mirf,

Poor by your standards, not addressing any of my concerns or opinions in an objectionable manner. More of a 'wum' reply.. You and Me don't do that to each other...Do we ? Alas Loui even shoots himself in the foot with his Jovial contribution..

"Sick of telling you guys to sit the fack down every facking wk, blocking my kids view every facking wk, show some respect you fackink thugs." ??

A wee bit 'colourfull' () But clearly, another advocate for a Standing section, so he & his young un's don't keep being inconvenienced by people standing in front of him...! I assume you too wish that was the case Mirf,
& I appreciate, You being of an 'Older' disposition. You wishing to 'sit' through out the game, Must be a bit of an ordeal to stand for 90 minutes at your age...

Unimpeded Seating for Mirf & Loui
That's What I'm talking about .

Darn/Brycey,

I'm not trying to be flippant or funny, but I just don't understand why anyone would wish to stand through almost 2 hours of football.

Surely if you were on a bus, train, at the cinema, Doctors surgery, or any other venue, a normal person would much prefer to sit and conserve their energy whilst watching the entertainment on display.

Since you have so far failed to state the exact reasons why you would prefer to stand, perhaps you could elaborate and then I might have more sympathy for your "standing" crusade?.

Mirf.
Thanks for the reply.

You don't need to understand 'why' fans prefer to stand. !
Just as you don't need to justify 'why' you choose to sit.

The whole problem is having no choice, & being told what to do. When previously there was a choice & 'we' could decide, for ourselves.

Unfortunately, The way the discussion has evolved has had a negative effect. Where by 'us' who would prefer to stand are to an extent ridiculed, & denied our choice.
No where has it been suggested that your choice as preferred sitters is wrong. Not at all. Good luck to you ... & by Golly, isn't it time that, at €25 quid a seat you are all provided with padding (a-la MK Dons) & your own individual arm rests..That's progress Mirf.

I don't blame Arroloui for getting 'vexed' everytime someone blocks his view... It's wrong. But there is no need for that situation to exist anyway.

A solution is a phone call & the stroke of a pen away..
It's an easy fix, that regular contributors to this 'site' are well aware of.
If Hoyle & HTFC inc were to cater for all, everyone wins.
We are 'bound' by EU law when it suits 'them' ...& Not 'under obligation' when again..it suits.
The Taylor recommendations were a knee jerk reaction, not thought through, hasty implementation & un necessary.

anyway. To elaborate 'why'.. I just like to stand Mirf. being seated makes me feel 'detached'.. I have never been aware that I needed to conserve energy at a game ! On the contrary, Just like at both Rugby codes, MotoX, Speedway, It's standing ....for ME. (of course I appreciate not everyone feels that way)

side issue,
Smoking in pubs, That was another blunder.
I can't do with Smoking...I don't 'get it'. BUT.
To ban the practice from every Pub was crackers.
'They', The powers that be, In my opinion should have also made provision for ALL.
Either left it up to the landlords.
designated 'Allowed/NOT Allowed' premisses .
or picked a handfull of Pubs 'Smoke free'.

That way everyone would have been catered for.
We really do have to respect each others choices & get along with each other a whole lot better than we do.

This 'divide & conquer' format is too easy for them.
We fall for it every time.
'They're' laughing at us.

i r efer all to my post above..
its still too close to the tragedies..

neither government or the clubs/fa etc are going to make the changes you want..

I am and always have been a perfectly respectable football fan.. I am aware, especially away from home, that there are a good number of daft lads(of all ages) who need "barriers" and "rules" and governments and safety "experts" will say that seating has been a success, in respect of these people inside grounds..
You cant win as long as we carry these people within the clubs "support"...

Darn - Having just returned the other week from a short trip to Amshterdam, I will have to add (nothing to do with footy) that we were drinking in a couple of bars where the smoking ban was simply ignored, The bar man told us on entering that the pub allowed smoking, He also told us the bar next door didnt,, The non smokers in our group were not bothered in the slightest,, I will add that non of the non smokers found it too smoky due to the layout of the pub and a decent size extracter fan on the ceiling,, It was not a bar full of tourists, In fact there was far more Amshterdammers in there than Brits,,,, One rule for some and another rule for others.

Very true & a valid comment 38.

Those characters you mention ruin the Saturday afternoon experience in many ways.
Alas, Thugs can & do sit down too.

That should not be the case to endorse a 'One size fits all' approach however.

proper hard work needs to be carried out at all levels to ensure everyone is catered for.
&. regardless of any counter arguments offered for debate on this issue. The fact remains......
The L666s,
Wednesday,
& maybe Hull, Boro , B'burn & Bolton fans will virtually fill the South Bank with all occupants Standing !

Why & How can they do it, & we the home fans can't.

Just a 'pedantic' nit pick 38.
you say "neither government or the clubs/fa etc are going to make the changes you want.."
You have stated elsewhere you would prefer to stand (given the option)....We are in this together, so...
not going to make the changes WE want would have been more like it >ok>

Brycey

& I bet everyone had a great time, with no 'fuss' what so ever. That in itself says it all.

I read with interest your decision not to buy the season ticket & agree, I too would be 'picking' my fixtures as things stand....ha ha pun intended
My mate is of the same frame of mind, It's ironic, we get into the Championship & the support could possibly drop ! There will be more than 'us' thinking this way.

darn..
its a number game..if a couple of hundred stand it can be dealt with..
if 4000 stand it cant..
clubs will start to be fined for persistent standing, its coming..then it will be something else, points or games played elsewhere.. this government and the fa etc are all for seated stadiums and family atmospheres, they baulk at the working man, beer and skittles touch...
they would much rather footballers get paid stupid money and blatant cheating than hear a single swear word at the games..
We all got started in football when it was standing in a shed with large amounts of swearing and general "rowdyness" as part and parcel of the experience.. we didnt turn into "hooligans" but quite a few did/have... you can see their point....
people who think that you can indidually cater for thousands of people havent a clue about the logistics of running large events..
worst case scenario-best case scenario, then try and meet somewhere in the middle is the best that you can really hope for..

Seating at hillsborough when the disaster occurred, would it have stopped the crush..???
It certainly would have split people up who were pouring into that area..

You cant argue with that.. and the powers that be will always quote it at you.. the youngest, smallest will always be at the front in a terrace situation ..

and finally, do i trust some of the m-rons that attend football matches to behave if they have free movement and fewer barriers??

no of course i dont..they are m-rons..
