.......at least both teams that came out of our group won their respective Q/F's!!!
Not only that, Spain and Italy were both comfortably better than their opponents, albeit Italy somehow conspired to let England off the hook over 90/120 minutes.
I actually don't think Italy were as good as Croatia (Germany will beat them comfortably in the semi I reckon) and were a little fortunate to go through, which shows just how hard our group was!!!
And sure there's nothing wrong with a bit of straw clutching............
Some small crumb of comfort for Ireland....

Ok we'll include Jennings! Do people agree that after the great George Best that Liam Brady was the most naturally gifted Footballer ever to come off this island

An absolute disgrace that former hoop and N.I. great, Pat Jennings, had to wait for the second count to be elected for the world class north constituency .
Coleman, as Earl mentioned above, John Giles could give Liam Brady a run for his money, after Mr. Best of course.

To be honest i'm just a bit too young to have actually seen Giles play.
Was he not just a hard man ?

He was that to be sure, along with the rest of the Elland Road leg biters, but he had abundant skill, and always put a full shift in, for Leeds and Ireland.
You ever come across any Colemans down Galway way by any chance ?

My aul fella always told me Giles was a cracker! Big Pat was definitely 'world class' and a better keeper than Shilton to boot!
