We know Roy is going to bring back players like Barry, Lampard, etc for the WC qualifiers. Rooney and Gerrard will get picked come what may. The team will get though the group, and guess what the hype will start all over again in two years time.
The Golden Generation have become the Golden Undroppables.

Carrick would not have made one iota of difference to England. They are just poo all over the pitch.

Maestro, I would agree with the Rooney issue if he hadn't been SO poor for England. Both he and Wellbeck tend to play a little deeper, and if we're playing with width, i think Carroll could be more of a threat.

Is that our problem? How many of the remaining teams "play with width"?

England for years now, have tried absolutely all different system, and still come up way short. The team is jsut not good enough.

It's not the system. It's the players, but until a manager comes in who will give the media the finger, the players will remain the same.
Look at the outrage because Rio wasn't picked. Imagine if that was Gerrard, or even Rooney?
Roy isn't this manager. Maybe the next one?

If we play Lennon and Johnson, we may as well use them.

I thought Roy did a steady job considering, and last night - in spots - was as good as I've seen England play since Euro 96.
No need for self-flagellation. We never win these things so just go along for the ride and enjoy the highs (and don't get too carried away by the inevitable lows).
