This year I didnt notice any hype. The players went out and tried hard. They did better than expected in my opinion.
WC will be a time for change. Roy didnt have time for wholesale changes for the Euros but made little ones, such as bringing along Ox and Henderson AND the big decision to drop Ferdinand. Now will be his time to shine and bring forward the new generation. Not to be world beaters but to restore some pride in the game.
Lampard, Rio, Gerrard, Barry and Parker will all retire hopefully.

The team should be built around the likes of Wilshire (if fit) Oxlade et al

England need a total mindset change. The individuals are irrelevant until the team starts retaining the ball and doing the basics as a team unit first.
The Wilshire hype will start like the Rooney hype. Jack Wilshire is not going to save England. He has not even plyed for the best part of a year. England are on a downward spiral in my opinion, and it has been coming for years now.
Players like Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Rio, Barry, Johnson all need to be left behind. It's time to let the younger ones have a go;
Richards
Wilshere
Smalling
Jones
Cleverley
Wilshere and Cleverley can both KEEP THE BALL!!!! Something Parker and Gerrard seem reluctant to do.

anyone pinning their hopes on caccck wilshere needs to reassess the situation.

Wilshire, FGS, it's Wilshere.
The Golden Girls, I hope retire.
most of the time they had to pass backwards because it was the only option
----------
What's wrong with passing it backwards? Pass it wherever you like, just keep hold of the ball.

Xavi is 32. Wilshere is 20.

"I don't think any England player should retire. They should be ready to play for England at all times - if called upon"
That is the problem, they will continue to be called upon despite not being good enough. The only way these failures will stop being picked for the team is if they decide not to be part of the squad anymore. Please god let them retire.
I'd like to se something like this:
Hart(c)
Walker
Cahill
Lescott
Baines
Lennon
Wilshere
Rodwell
Johnson
Wellbeck
Carroll
We've got the likes of Oxlaide C, Young, Caulker etc.
If we're going to have a cull of the Golden Generation (© the tabloids), then let's do it properly. What's the worst that can happen? It's not like we've got a flawless record to protect.
Build the team around whilkshire
You're right.
People slate Carrick for always passing it backwards, but I honestly think we would have done much better if he was on the pitch over Parker.

Carroll for Rooney and I agree, although I am not a fan of goalkeepers being the captain.
^ I'd also have Richards over Walker.

Carrick would not have made one iota of difference to England. They are just poo all over the pitch.
Maestro, I would agree with the Rooney issue if he hadn't been SO poor for England. Both he and Wellbeck tend to play a little deeper, and if we're playing with width, i think Carroll could be more of a threat.
