Ok now that the dust has settled heres what i think the next england team for brazil 2014 will look like and from whom many will reappear at france 2016

Generally i like the look of it, bar two players (G.johnson and gerrard) all other 9 players will definitely improve in the next two year.
The defence has had a major shake up, not because they are not good enough but because by the next major comp they wont be guaranteed first choice never namely because of age. After the current euros i would typically be quite sad because the defence were outstanding but they play way too deep. Cahill and kelly have pace galore and will be able to play a higher up the line and this should help us out in terms of retaining the ball better.
Gerrard will have to be disclipined and simply play the parker role.
Most importantly about 8 of the 11 players feel comfortable will the ball!

Im afraid, for englands sake, the crop of new talent coming through, cant hold a candle to the players who have come before them, so in that respect, england future looks decidedly iffy.
Wayne Rooney is a fantastic player, at club level, but just dosent cut it at international level, I doubt Gerrard will play any part in 2014, and his potential replacements, are a shadow of the player he was, at their age, so for me, i see little evidence to suggest that the future looks anything, but dull.

I don't know how many people wanted Sneijder, I think it was media talk. Ozil on the other hand would have being a great signing. He's (IMO) being the best player in this Euro. Immense.
Carrick isn't a play-maker, Ozil is.
Oh, and your formation is 442. You simply have an attacking CM, and a defensive CM.

A lot of United fans don't appreciate Carrick, but the reason people wanted them and still do is because you need more than one good midfielder in the centre and we need a quality playmaker, Carrick is a defensive mid.

Jack Wilshere is better at the age of 20 than Steven Gerrard was. Obviously as a Liverpool fan you cannot fathom the fact that some player might have been or is better than Gerrard at any aspec of football.
Rooney and Gazza are probably the only English players that have been as good or better than him at the age of 20 in the last 20 years.
