All-Ireland team

OK, so this isn't realistically gonna happen but some of the Republic fans seem to be hugely ignorant of the talent of some of our players.

I think in long term, Lee Camp could potentially replace Given, as he's really getting on now. Also, McAuley and/or Evans would deserve a place in an All-Ireland team as the Republic's defence looked awful at the Euros.

They also lacked creativity and a wide threat, so Brunt and Davis should be included. Upfront I accept that Northern Ireland have struggled since Healy ran over the hill.

I make that potentially 5 N.Irish players out of 11 in an Irish XI

Anyone agree that ability-wise this team may have a chance to qualify sometime soon?

Oh, and Tim Howard was the keeper in the 2004 team.

PS: Shay has been in it twice.

CP:
Like you say, you're bored and its a totally subjective exercise. This explains your bizarre selection with only ONE IFA player.

Maik was goalie in the EPL team for 2003-4. I checked.

Check again mate, here's the link:

Yes, as I said 'totally subjective and ultimately pointless' but I tried to base it on the level they play at on a regular basis and keep them in their club position.

Apart from Maik Taylor for Shay Given who else would you replace and why?

CP:
Have to go now. Wiki under "Maik Taylor" says he was the EPL goalie for the 2003-4 season. Whatever, I do honestly consider him to be the best Irish goalie around. I like Shay, but Maik's better. 40 is not the end for a goalie. Zoff was playing at the top into his 40s as was Yashin. Anyway Shay himself must be mid 30s. Interesting the way their careers developed with both being unsung to a certain extent with Shay at Celtic and Maik at Southhampton(?). Re others, for a start, Davis is a quality player. Anyone who watches him can see that. Hes been class wherever he has played. MON pushed him out at Villa cos he wanted his mate Petrov in and cos ........! Gotta go!

'Nominated' Shen, didn't actually get in the the team. Was in the Championship team a couple of times though.

Funnily enough he's probably the only player to represent one of the Irelands who is less Irish than Tony Cascarino!

Only one NI player would make the team and thats Evans and thats only after he recaptured his form again. If it was two seasons ago he wouldnt have made the bench. Andrews bossed Davis during the 5 nil thrashing. Brunt would make the bench.
