I'd take Evans and perhaps McAuley.
Westwood plays at a higher level than Camp so I'd stick with Westwood. Mind you it has never stopped Trap from selecting poorer players before.
Two out of eleven.
We have creative players in Hoolihan, McCarthy, and Gibson who (for different reasons) weren’t involved in the Euros. We have the players but the manager doesn’t want to use them, so yeah..include Davis and Brunt if you want but with Trap in charge, they’d be warming the bench anyway.
Baird and Hughes would also be in the mix IMO
Taylor has always been better than Given or Camp and still is. Thats why he was voted EPL goalie of the year in 2004 and named in the EPL players team of the year for the 2003-2004 season! Safety first with big Maik!
Well articles like this are totally subjective and ultimately pointless but what the hell, I'm bored enough to give it a go - playing in a 4-3-3/4-5/1:
Keeper: Given
RB: Kelly
CB: Evans (c)
CB: Dunne
LB: Wilson
CM: Gibson
CM: McCarthy
ACM: Hoolahan
RW: McGeady
LW: McClean
CF: Long
The logic behind my selection:
Despite his poor form at the Euro's Shay plays at a higher level than any other keeper available to the side, the No1 spot is his to lose.
Kelly and Wilson as full-backs because unlike Trap or Worthington (not sure about MON yet obviously) I want players who play that position for their clubs at the highest possible level every week. Kelly finished the season as 1st choice right back at Fulham and Wilson has done well to 'covert' himself into a left-back, as his manager says "Nobody mentions Marc at all, but I think he's been outstanding this year when you think he hasn't played full-back before. For me, he doesn't get the credit he deserves. He's more of a midfield player than a full-back, but he's done fantastically well in defence. He's got so much quality when he's in possession. It's not just about his defending and that is a great asset for this football club".
At centre back Evans picks himself, captaining the team not only because he plays at a higher level than the rest of the team but also because of the mental fortitude he's shown in turning around his United career. So who best to partner him? Has to be Dunne for me, one problem Johnny still hasn't overcome is a big physical target man bullying him so who better than the Honey Monster to do the no nonsense stuff while Johnny feeds the midfielders?
And so onto the midfield and I'll go balls out and try and do something neither Ireland team is good at, keeping the ball! Gibson has been excellent since moving to Everton, McCarthy can make it to the very top and Wes just has that something 'different'.
As for the forwards well the lone striker was a hard pick but I'm a big Shane Long fan so I've given him the nod. McGeady although infuriating is also capable of producing 'something out of nothing' and has at least took a chance with his career and went and experienced a different league/culture and McLean is of course the up and coming star of both Irish football and the Premier League, if his star continues to rise he quite simply cannot be left out!!!
Players who didn't make the cut: Westwood, needs to make the Sunderland No1 spot his own first. Ferguson, needs to make the Newcastle starting XI on a regular basis and nail down a position. Coleman, same at Everton. O'Shea, was a toss up with Dunne for me but Richard compliments Evans better I think. Davis, started like a house on fire at Villa before fading and moving to Fulham where he didn't really pull up any trees. No doubt he's done the business in Scotland but that just doesn't cut the mustard for my team! Brunt and Fahey hard to leave them out, just missed the cut! Duff, his best days are behind him. Walters, just personal preference in the end, just prefer Shane Long ever so slightly due to his pace in behind.
And yes, I really am that bored without any football to watch!
Sorry Shen but big Maik is 40 and has, per his wiki page, made just 9 first team appearances since the start of the 2009/2010 season.
Oh, and Tim Howard was the keeper in the 2004 team.
PS: Shay has been in it twice.
CP:
Like you say, you're bored and its a totally subjective exercise. This explains your bizarre selection with only ONE IFA player.
Maik was goalie in the EPL team for 2003-4. I checked.
Check again mate, here's the link:

Yes, as I said 'totally subjective and ultimately pointless' but I tried to base it on the level they play at on a regular basis and keep them in their club position.
Apart from Maik Taylor for Shay Given who else would you replace and why?
CP:
Have to go now. Wiki under "Maik Taylor" says he was the EPL goalie for the 2003-4 season. Whatever, I do honestly consider him to be the best Irish goalie around. I like Shay, but Maik's better. 40 is not the end for a goalie. Zoff was playing at the top into his 40s as was Yashin. Anyway Shay himself must be mid 30s. Interesting the way their careers developed with both being unsung to a certain extent with Shay at Celtic and Maik at Southhampton(?). Re others, for a start, Davis is a quality player. Anyone who watches him can see that. Hes been class wherever he has played. MON pushed him out at Villa cos he wanted his mate Petrov in and cos ........! Gotta go!
'Nominated' Shen, didn't actually get in the the team. Was in the Championship team a couple of times though.
Funnily enough he's probably the only player to represent one of the Irelands who is less Irish than Tony Cascarino!

Oh aye, lol...............
You show your true colours CP lol...............
Your mask has slipped after the ROI's humiliation lol.................
Only one NI player would make the team and thats Evans and thats only after he recaptured his form again. If it was two seasons ago he wouldnt have made the bench. Andrews bossed Davis during the 5 nil thrashing. Brunt would make the bench.
