Tom Huddlestone. Keep ignoring him and overlooking him and wonder why you cant keep the ball. I think english coaches need to think outside the box, and by outside the box i mean Gerald, Lampard, Rooney and any other man u player. The truth is the best 11 players dont always make the best team. Sad but true.
P.s Playing Defoe in that tournament would not have hurt england. Having him run at defenders seems more appealing than Andy Carroll winnig all those stupid headers. but its all hind sight now.

He's not better than Wilshere though.

In terms of technique and passing, Tom Huddlestone is excellent.
However, there are question marks over his fitness and mobility, and the fact he has played so little for Tottenham over the last two seasons would make selecting him far too risky.
If we wanted a deep-lying midfield anchor who could keep the ball and dictate the game from deep, then Michael Carrick would have been the best player, IMO.

was he not injured for the bulk of the season?

Having Dofoe run at defenders without the ball wouldn't have worried them at all.
If you're imagining him running at defenders with the ball, you're also going to have to explain how he would get the ball on a regular basis.
After all, you can theoretically say exactly the same about Walcott, but in fact he caused Italy's defence no worries whatever, becasue he was rarely in possession of the ball.

The only person I saw running at defenders with the ball was Glen Johnson and he's a defender!
Must admit I do like Huddlestone though, big, young, physical player with speed and a nice touch.
Can anyone explain why Aaron Lennon wasn't there?

Why did Spurs buy Huddlestone only to put him on a pie only diet and stick him in the reserves for the first season he was there? He was never that big at Derby.
He's a quality footballer, but unless he can stay fit enough to play the majority of the season for Tottenham how can any england manager justify his selection?
