Anybody heard the rumour that Forster and agent want a minimum release fee clause added to his contract & that this is the hold up?
In theory I'm not against such a clause being inserted, it lets the player know he wont be held to ransom or held back as so many nowadays seem to think they are and also ensures the club receive a decent fee in return.
However, text from my mate says the release fee they want is £4m!! He rarely texts these rumours he gets unless its fairly credible so not sure where its from or if there is any substance to it.
No idea if Celtic agree to a release fee but want to bump it up a bit more or whether they are against it fullstop.
It certainly seems more plausible then wage demands, he would have had a fairly good idea what kind of wages would be on offer at the club having been here 2 years.
Forster - Minimum Release Fee?

Dave
he set a clean sheet record in his 1st season, the fact of the matter is people only started accepting him after he saved the pen against Hearts

You cant really blame ANY player for thinking twice about staying in scottish football at this particular time.The game up here is now at an all time low and will only get worse with the demise of the cheats!!The quality in our game is just not there!! The last hoops player I really enjoyed watching and rated was Nakamura!!!!

He's had two years to decide whether he wants to commit to playing up here. Having stalled since the season ended in the hope of a better offer from down South
==================================
Same could be said that we have had 2 years to offer him a contract.
12 months ago we looked elsewhere then got him back on loan, in January we put talks off until the end of the season.
Whats to say we haven't moved the goalposts again in some way?
I'd prefer him to stay as I can't see who else we could possibly get in of a decent quality.
I would allow a £6m release fee but that only kicks in after 2 years so we get 2 full seasons guarenteed before he has the option to leave should a club bid £6m.

I doubt very much if he'd guarantee staying for two years.Our game is in a mess because of the Rangers situation, he may want to go earlier
==========================
Game was in a mess before the Rangers situation, hardly think that will sway his decision.
He will want to leave to play against the best players he can and to get England recognition.
At the moment he will be number 1 at Celtic, he wont be at EPL clubs - he will be seen as a cheap backup who will have to cease his chance if first choice keeper gets injured.
Hopefully we get CL football & he can prove himself to be a more than capable young keeper which will get him his move.

He's a decent keeper, no more, no less IMO. There SHOULD be plenty of other options out there for £2m. Look at Swansea last season, signing Vorm (for £1m, I think?) ... standout keeper, and FAR better than Forster. Yes, they were heading for the Prem, but surely we can play the "stepping stone to the Prem" card again?
I've nothing against Forster trying to get the best deal for himself ... I'd do the same. Just not convinced he REALLY wants to be up here, and that's not a great starting point for any Celtic player IMO. As for his chances of England recognition? Aye, right. Hart is England No.1 for the next decade, barring injury, so I wouldn't be basing my career moves on that premise.
============================
I agree he is nowhere near Hart, and if Jack Butland continues he will be the one challenging Hart IMO but beyond that there are few keepers in England who actually want to play for England!!
He's a good keeper, very young for his position too and if you compare the last few games of the season to his first few when he first arrived you can see how much he has developed.
I am struggling to name somebody we could realistically afford to get to be honest who would be anywhere near Forsters level.
Boruc will be on a fair whack & is wanting to play at the top level...............Celtic & the SPL will be his fallback option if nothing comes up from Spain or England......then France, Holland.....etc.
Gordon is a liability. We may as well play Zaluska as he will play more games than Gordon.
Other than that your looking at a loan from an EPL side - Arsenal seem to have plenty of keepers, Fabianski perhaps? We scouted him when Boruc first hinted at moving.
