I haven't created an article in a while, but something quite serious came up today which provoked me to create this article.
Ok, Robin van Persie announced today that he was not going to be signing another contract. Naturally, I was disappointed with his decision, but it isn't the end of the world. If you don't stick by a club that has stuck buy you throughout a good few years in your career, then you can get out of the club and close the door on the way out.
Now onto my main point which is the reason that van Persie gave for not extending his contract. He came out with the old "unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward." Is this a personal opinion of his? Or is there a serious issue with where the board wants to take Arsenal Football Club? Where does he want Arsenal to be heading?
A number of players have left this great club over the years. Some for money, some for sentiment. The issue is that we are managing to lose players to smaller clubs such as Manchester City because we are showing a "lack of ambition". The fact that van Persie has come out with his statement is extremely concerning as I'm sure that he would want us to be challenging for trophies.
And so, the question remains. Where on earth do the board want to take us? What is so bad that we are losing players in their peak to other clubs? It cannot just be money. If only a review of the board could be undertaken.
A Worrying Development

RVP probably wants us to spend big on star players and compete for trophies. The club is committed to the self sustaining model.

He wants investment. The club refuse, simple as really. We are an old fashioned club fighting in amongst sides with much more investment than us. It's not a problem necessarily with ambition.

100% agree with this article. My main concern was not RVP's decision to leave, but the reason he gave for this decision. Hopefully it was just rhetoric for him to avoid appearing money-grabbing, but I think that might be wishful thinking I'm afraid.

The club is committed to the self sustaining model...what does that mean? I am so sick of people defending management. We dont have to break the bank, but we have to retain quality and consistency. I wish I heard rvp request. He probably requested a decent centrback for cover and attack midfielder, that is all.

Lack of ambition equates to lack of money, there is no way any team is going to be competitive against the sugar daddy clubs City, Utd and Chelsea.
If we had Man City's wage bill we would be bankrupt in no time, thats without buying the players first.

We are not operating a self sustaning model. We are operating a model to maximise profit. Two TOTALLY different things.
