Did Fryers show for training?

The rumours persist that Fryers will move to Spurs, but SAF said on Tuesday that he had heard nothing from the lad or his agent and that he expected him back in for training.

I find the timing of SAF's comments a bit odd, as the players were due back for training on Monday, so surely Fryers should already have been back at Carrington?

Does anyone have any info on whether he turned up for training this week?

just because he's captain though mate, it doesnt mean he shouldnt be dropped if he isnt playing well.
plus it was all season to be fair.

Dropping your captain is not good for moral - unless he is unpopular in the dressing room, which isnt the case with Evra. I know he hasn't played well since WC 2010 really, but to drop him could have caused more problems than it solved. Once Vidic gets back, or if Rio stays fit, I think we could see taking the armband - then Evra won't be so untouchable.

Anothert youngster who wasnt good enough. Too tired about this issue to truly care. Our youth policy is reliant on some sort of loyalty to the great club keeping them not playing and paid less under the guise of "unproven". The only way a player is proven is by playing. If you dont find the right balance, the best of them will leavre and we will be left with the average ones.

I'm not trying to be flippant but do you really care if Fryers goes? Is it that much of a loss. Is he really that hard to replace?

He may well turn out good, he might not, but we obviously shouldnt pay him 20k a week and give him a long contract on that money straight away to find out. He obviously isnt that confident in his own ability if he wants to give up the chance of playing in United's first team. My bet is he's unsure if he'll make it to become a regular starter and wants to cash in now and try in a less competitive environment where he has more chance of making it. All this when he doesnt have much competition at United as well. Very unsure of himself.

If the upstart wants out purely for short term cash, let him go and without mourning. It's most definitely his loss not ours. It's not like we are saying good bye to a Rio quality player at that age, and what's the best he can achieve at Spurs?

Far better players than him at his age have not made it in the game, and far better young players than him have left the club and done well, yet United still didn't miss a beat and we wont now.

I'm much more concerned about who is going to come in as left back and replace Evra in the years ahead tbh. Fryers isnt close to being ready as an elite clubs main man and we need better than him to challenge the really big boys. He might be ready in 5 years but he might not, and I wont lose sleep waiting to find out.

It is indeed about balance. But until we see lots of the youngsters tearing up trees elsewhere, we don't have enough information to conclude we have got the balance wrong. In the case of Pogba we clearly wanted to keep the player. We don't really know whether it was money or progression to the XI that motivated him. In the case of others we don't yet have evidence that they were good enough yet to get into the senior squad. Unless Fergie was certain that Fryers (despite inexperience) was both ready as a player and psychologically ready for the pressure of the Premiership, he'd have been kind of mad to drop Evra at his expense.

Well said Pea.

the frustrating thing is though we let these contracts run down and then end up losing these players for nothing, or some cheap compo.

There has to be a balance that allows the best to stay long enough to see what they offer. If a player seen as better than the herd then test him. We are now producing youngsters who perform. I'll fancy our reserves against any div 1 team and we just spent 2 million on player from that level.

Evra has been far from stellar but he may have played the most games last season, maybe even more than rooney. A home game against lower level team while surrounding the youngster with an experienced squad is a reasonable risk to take. Tbh if you factor in fergies escuse for rotating "keep fresh" (i dont believe it) to his questionable form, more games from fabio and fryers whould have happened. Yet they dont.

They make not be good enough but i want us to be sure first. Mindset, experience can only come from playing, so unless we intend to buy youngsters than train them, something has got to give because we wre truly wasting a lot of energy to scout train and basically raise kids only to let them go. I dont think a team of our stature loses youngsters like us. Barca loses a lot but they also play a lot of them too more often than not playing their most promising. I watched tello play for them and while it was cleart he was not ready, the manager made sure he got exposure. Those games he played may have lost them points but their reward will come next yr. How many players can we say that about from our reserves?
