if it were not for a last second kick from Aguero, would Ripley be saying we buckled under the pressure?

---------------------

My post was overall positive towards United, yet people are picking up on the one comment that could possibly be construed as being negative. Oh well.

For what it's worth, if City hadn't scored the last minute winner, it would be folly of me to even suggest that United bottled it, because United would have won the league. However, as far as I am concerned, every game lasts for 90 minutes plus injury time, thus any goal scored during that time, whether it be scored in the 1st minute or the last, amounts to exactly the same thing.

But no matter how anyone wants to spin it, City won the league, United didn't. United, with a few weeks to go, were in a great position, and yet they ended up empty handed. In my opinion, it wasn't the final day that sealed United's fate, it was the events over the duration of the season, for a win in the last game of the season returns exactly the same amount of points as a win at any other time during the season does. But if we are to point fingers, then in United's run-in, it was the dropped points against Wigan and Everton that ultimately sealed your fate.

Nonetheless, United lost it from a winning position, and that, for United, is out of character. United did bottle it. They blew an 8 point lead with a mere 4,5 or 6 games to go. I have no doubt that had the situation been reserved, and it was City who blew such a lead, then you United fans would be saying exactly the same thing as I am saying in regards to United.

And injuries may well have played a part. Vidic was a big loss, no doubt there, but while City didn't have as many injuries (and certainly no long term injuries similar to that what United had to endure), that ultimately doesn't matter. How many injuries did United have when they lost the league to Blackburn? Or Arsenal? Or Leeds? Or Chelsea? Without looking up, I doubt anyone would be able to answer that question, because it is a question that over time doesn't really mean anything. The bottom line is that City won the league, and City deserved to. Any team that wins the league deserves to win it. Which is precisely what your own manager said in his interview after the final whistle was blown on the last day of the season. So full credit to him for that.

Anyway, remind not to write a generally positive post about United again, because no matter what fans of other clubs write (and especially posts written by City fans), you United fans will invariably find something within such a post to complain about. Which is quite sad really.

Guys why did you have to upset Ripley

no complaints from me, if your top of the table after 38 games then you deserve it.

Not happy about that though!

ripley..... If you read the replies, we corrected what we felt was a mistake, on your part.... but also mentioned that City were worthy winners.... So don't sweat it.

Like I said yesterday, my comment could be construed as being negative, but that doesn't render it a mistake. Something happened to United to cause them to uncharacteristically crumble in the final few weeks of the season. My opinion is that United did lose their bottle during the run-in, but my opinion is also that United will do their best not to allow that to happen again. I don't think my saying that constitutes a "mistake", but it clearly constitutes a differing of opinion.
