Your Favourite WWE/F Match?

Not which you think is the most memorable, or the most significant, your personal favourite? A match which isn’t exactly considered a classic by many, but one which struck at everything you want out of wrestling.

Mine was the 2005 Elimination Chamber Match in Puerto Rico.
HHH vs. Batista vs. Orton vs. Edge vs. Benoit vs. Jericho

It had all the components I want out of a wrestling match. For starters, unlike any Chamber match before or since, every participant right down to the referee had a role to play. No-one was just a random body. All were cross feuding with each other prior to the match. Secondly, the little supporting roles of any wrestling match were all on top form. On commentary, you had the excellence of heel Lawler (1000% cooler than heel Cole), the snide comments of Coach and the godliness of J.R all backing their proverbial horses. You had a crowd so excited to even be hosting a PPV event the atmosphere had this grateful embracing quality about it. I wouldn’t say raw emotion, but there was definite electricity in the arena. The match itself had a bit of everything, Y2J/Benoit for the fast counter holds at the beginning, Batista throwing people about at will, Edge quickening the pace, with everyone coming out having had an impressive spell at some point. It had some great mini demonstrations of quality writing sprinkled in, the referees taking an age to open Batista’s chamber, Batista eyeballing HHH when he was fragile, HHH clearly second guessing his instinct to help Batista when he was pinned, etc… had a particularly good period with Benoit and Orton (both faces) naively attacking each other or HHH (the heel) rather than preserve their own interests, fantastic exposure for the underlining weakness that lies within 99% of faces.

But what made this match especially good to me was the layered story it told that spread out across various tangents. The two prominent factors going in revolved around Edge’s simmering push, and the growing disillusion within Evolution, and within the 12 months before this match every single wrestler had a hand in both angles. And the match itself proved to act as a pivotal building block for all angles/pushes.

Anyone else have a similarly undervalued match?

I dont remember the buildup or anything like. I was 7 at the time.

But im still a big HBK fan and it was the first time i saw someone win it after starting at number1.

So it stood out for me

Fair enough Leiva. To be fair, there was less build up back then. If memory serves the whole thing was built around an appearance from Pamela Anderson. And people complain nowadays... I just remeber the while event being the absolute worst.

It was a pretty rubbish period to be a Wrestling fan.

There's a couple of underrated matches I liked. One is Shawn Michaels vs Shelton Benjamin from an episode of Raw and DX vs Legacy from a summerslam a few years ago.
