What are quality signings?

I'm aware Liverpool have signed only one player in Borini. The transfer targets we are being linked with most heavily are Dempsey and Allen. Now, the names being touted are underwhelming, reputation wise when you compare to Hazard or Podolski but does that matter?

What I mean is, Rodgers said from the out set that the best players don't necessarily make the best team. Just because they don't have the most illustrious name doesn't mean they aren't quality signings. Many fans are comparing our transfer dealings to those of other clubs but why? Rodgers is looking for players to fit his system and to do what he is trying to do. Chelsea have bought 3 attacking midfielders, all of whom have never played in the premier league. They now have a surplus of attacking talent, and I'm sure they will come good but we needn't compare and worry.

Arsenal have armed themselves with two strikers who are also unproven in the premier league. Podolski's club form is shocking and Giroud may turn out to be another Chamakh.

Rodgers has signed a home grown striker who can interchange all over the front 3 - this gives versatility in his 4-3-3. He knows the player and how he works. Suarez will be greatly complimented by Borini. The touted signings next - Allen is a composed midfielder who keeps the ball extremely well, probably top 10. His passing stats last season demonstrated this - at a newly promoted club. He knows how Rodgers wants to play, has played with him for two seasons and will do the job Rodgers will ask for second to non. £15M is a lot to pay for any player but if we can guarantee someone who will do what is asked of every week then he is worth the money surely - exactly what we paid for right? That to me would be a quality signing, not a big name who has never played in the league and has a good record elsewhere.

Finally a little look at Dempsey - I'm not his biggest fan, he annoys me. But 17 goals a season from midfield is fantastic. He can play anywhere on the pitch bar defence. And the marketing opportunities in the US would be a bonus.

I don't think Liverpool fans should worry at all about the 'quality' of our signings. Rodgers is buying the perfect tool for the job he wants, not the most expensive or reputable but the best for what he wants. You wouldn't buy a two seater sports car to transport a family across the country, nor would you bring the best up hill land rover to a drag race along an air port runway.

Bad examples I know but you catch my drift?

Not decrying the lad, as he looks a tidy player, but don't use his stats as the 'be all & end all' as they're not.

I haven't used his stats as anything, I posted that to show people he is versatile, then you pick out one stat and highlight it.

I watched him a lot last year and years gone by as I am origionally from Swansea, I don't base my opinion on stats but performances.

You said in your last post, that his stats were better than any of your midfield from last season, which as a statement is false, as in some areas he was better & in others worse - that was my point.

Ok I mentioned stats once in a passing comment, then go on to say about how well I thought he played last season, controlling games etc, my opinion is not based on stats, that comment was made to back up an opinion I have of him.

So stating I have used stats as the be all & end all, is just wasting both our time.

Whatever lad, he's the new Messi & you're an expert on him, carry on

Brilliant, another one.

Where have I said any of that, I just said I rate the guy, I have seen him play a lot and my opinion is not based on stats alone.

Do you really have an issue with me rating a potential player of Liverpool?

I don't think anyone should use Adam's passing forward and unsuccessful tackle stats for any comparative purposes

Anfield doesn't have a clue who we should sign just thinks the players we've been linked with aren't good enough because he thinks we're still the best team in the world

The thing is, if Allen 27/28 I'd agree with you, but he's 22 do he has years before he hits his peak.

Dempsey should have been playing top level for years - would love it if we signed him!!

How about Lucas?

Would it surprise you to know that Lucas passed forwards 27% more than Allen last season?

That's more relevant

Allen would be a good signing, but I'm not sure he currently has more to offer than Henderson

I would be good to have more depth of younger English talent though. And Buck likes him and he knows what he's trying to acheive over the next few years best.
