Don't post here much but had a little scenario/idea that was discussed at work yesterday.
We are clearly after RVP and don't seem to be after a CM. Was SAF impressed with how Rooney played in CM when he played there in parts of last season?
Could SAF be planning to play Rooney in CM and then replace him with RVP upfront?
Could this work?
An Idea

I'm not having a go mate, but this kind of response typifies those that I have had when I have suggested that Rooney might end up in CM. The OP isn't saying that he/she believes that Rooney should go into midfield - they are questioning whether that could be what SAF is planning.

Fair enough, i also wasn't having a go.

Scholes and Ruud had one of the best goals to games ratio of any of our partnerships, so I wouldn't say that it didn't work

It worked for Paul Scholes!
Not when he was 27 years old it never.

I really hope it's not what Sir Alex is planning OP because Rooney's first touch, his control and ability to keep hold of the ball can be very poor at times.
He needs to improve on these areas a lot IMO before the manager should even think about playing him in central midfield.
I've even got concerns about him playing "in the hole" against the better sides like Barcelona because he lost the ball on quite a few occasions last night. There was a big improvement in the 2nd half when Rooney went off and Kagawa came on because we kept hold of the ball better.

Rooney simply cannot control a game, his use of the ball isn't consistant enough and whilst he has the range of passing, he will never have the temperment.

this
plus rooney is a 30 mllion+ striker, so if we lose rooney upfront he will need replacing with a strker of similar quality which will cost money. so why not spend the mony on a speacialist midfielder instead of putting square pegs in round holes

What's this guy Rooney doing kicking the ball off the goal-line to save a sure enemy score (a la Terry)...and someone is saying he is only a striker...the man is everywhere!!!!!

Not a chance in hell
No way will Sir Alex play our best striker in midfield unless it's an emergency
