No, not imo

Thats what I thought. I feel we'd lose too much of Rooneys attacking abity to make it worth while

Ssssshhhhhh, don't suggest this. I have raised the question a few times and people do not like it.

Rooney is great at spraying passes and getting about, but not sure how well he'd fair up against the likes of Barca in a champs league match. He doesn't seem to be as composed on the ball as he used to be imo.

I hope not.

Why would playing our most consistent goalscorer in CM do anything but cause problems?

Why do people seem to think putting somone is a makeshift position is the way forward.

If we have an issue in midfield then we need to address this be signing a player or promoting a player from youth.

Rooney is a striker.

You might be on to something, that may be in Fergie's thinking, but it would be a bad idea in my opinion. Rooney is not composed enough on the ball, he would come unstuck against a team with a good midfield and we would also lose his attacking ability up front.
Just because he can play there doesn't mean he should.

It worked for Paul Scholes!

I'm not having a go mate, but this kind of response typifies those that I have had when I have suggested that Rooney might end up in CM. The OP isn't saying that he/she believes that Rooney should go into midfield - they are questioning whether that could be what SAF is planning.

Sir Alex wouldn't do this at all, despite all his random position changing players. Rooney is far to valuable to just shove him in centre-midfield for him to be wasted. He gets frustrated when he's not given the ball and is feeding of scraps. Imagine what'll happen when the midfield he's in is getting bossed about? [which will happen next season for sure]

Having RVP is just an indication that the younger players are not quite ready to play, and an over-reliance on Wayne Rooney too. If Wellbeck and Hernandez both managed 20 goals each last season, I don't think we'd bother with Van Persie.

"It worked for Paul Scholes!"

And then SAF tried to redeploy him as a second striker to sit behind Ruud which didn`t work.

Granted he was a striker at youth level, but this is totally different. Rooney has always been most effective up front. He`s a striker. End of

Have to agree. His first touch needs some serious work if SAF is planning on utilising him there.

If we get RVP we would have the best two strikers in the prem, who we would want to work together to destory teams, so no. Although when Rooney ages and gets into his 30's, you never know this could be a possiblity

Scholes and Ruud had one of the best goals to games ratio of any of our partnerships, so I wouldn't say that it didn't work

Not when he was 27 years old it never.

I really hope it's not what Sir Alex is planning OP because Rooney's first touch, his control and ability to keep hold of the ball can be very poor at times.

He needs to improve on these areas a lot IMO before the manager should even think about playing him in central midfield.

I've even got concerns about him playing "in the hole" against the better sides like Barcelona because he lost the ball on quite a few occasions last night. There was a big improvement in the 2nd half when Rooney went off and Kagawa came on because we kept hold of the ball better.

Rooney simply cannot control a game, his use of the ball isn't consistant enough and whilst he has the range of passing, he will never have the temperment.

this
plus rooney is a 30 mllion+ striker, so if we lose rooney upfront he will need replacing with a strker of similar quality which will cost money. so why not spend the mony on a speacialist midfielder instead of putting square pegs in round holes

What's this guy Rooney doing kicking the ball off the goal-line to save a sure enemy score (a la Terry)...and someone is saying he is only a striker...the man is everywhere!!!!!

Not a chance in hell

No way will Sir Alex play our best striker in midfield unless it's an emergency
