Scott Parker

I'm not an Arsenal fan but like to see them do well and thus am wondering why Wenger isn't trying to sign Parker? Footballer of the Year, England international and would only cost around £8m. He has a wealth of Premier League experience plus you'd think he'd jump at the chance to join the Gunners.

I know it's become a cliche to say but I think the failure of Wenger to identify this type of player as a good signing is what's hamstrung their challenge for trophies in recent years. When was the last time he signed a player from another (or recently relegated) Premier League club instead of going abroad? It doesn't guarantee they'll be good but you do know what you're getting...

I think basically it's a case that Wenger rightly or wrongly does not rate him that highly...

I know Wenger allegedly likes any player under his guidance to be both intelligent and technically sound. I'm not saying Parker does not posses those attributes, but either way, I just don't think Wenger believes Parker would fit the mould.

You said if Song is so great then why didn't he win Writers player of the year. Going by this argument then anyone who didn't win it, isn't as good as parker. So i named some players who didn't win it.

And i said WUM becasue so far on this debate you have tried to bring my personal life into it. (making up stuff up hat i need to get out more and that I'm getting stressed). And you've openly admitted making digs at me. That is a WUM

Seems to be the case re: Wenger. Do you think that his transfer 'policy' - if we assume there is one that seems to preclude most experienced English or English-based players is harming Arsenal's chances of winning a trophy?

Oh dear... you said 'wum' and made some sarcastic comment about signing Darren Bent for left-back way before I suggested you 'get out more' so don't come that; I don't really see how saying that and that you're getting stressed is beinging your personal life into either...

Anyway, this is getting very silly; rather not get into debates with people who put thumbs up after things they say and generally freak out when someone deigns to mildly criticse their club so I'll leave you be I think.

As I've stated I know my clubs faults and don't mind people mentioning them. If you were to speak about a center back then yes i'd agree. i just feel that we have one of the best central midfields in the league. I take back my silly sarcastic comment. more of a joke. Apologies. i can see that you are actually an intellegent poster and i'm sure we could have a sensible debate. and for the they just brighten up a really shiiiittty work day.

Tough call that. Not specifically, I really don't think Wenger is anti-English/British.

He's put a whole world of faith in young British stars like Wilshere and Ramsey, wh are likely to be the "future" of the club, that's some blessing!

I think Wenger has VERY specific requirments from a player, probably more so than any coach in the Prem. He looks at the attributes, stats, personality of players and if he likes what he see's he makes his move. Regardless if they are from Mansfield or Mali!

I do think he does however think in general the overall standard of British player "technically" is not up to the higher level of the continentals and in that respect it's hrd to argue with that notion.

I don't think he's anti-English either and I agree he has specific requirements of the players he signs: I guess it's these requirements I'm debating.

For example, you're probably right about the technical ability of English players but I do think he fails to accept that some English players could do a good job for Arsenal and may surprise with their ability.

I don't think anyone would suggest Tony Adams, Lee Dixon, Ray Parlour, Martin Keown etc were the most technically gifted but they were great players for Arsenal and could all still play a bit to boot.

I would love to see someone like Scott Parker or Joey Barton play for Arsenal as I think they have some ability but more importantly they are leaders and, although it's a cliche, they get stuck in wouldn't accept meek surrender, lack of effort or constant defensive mistakes. Neither have the ability of someone like Diaby but what's more important - consistent performance and great at the mental side of the game or someone who can produce a great pass or dribble but gives the ball away and jogs back with a smile on their face?

People also seem to forget our biggest fratality. Set pieces.

So lets replace one of our 4 (out field players) with a small man, who is not going to help in set pieces in anyway, except maybe he may just get in the way.
Song is perfect where he is, it would be stupid to get rid of him and replace him with Parker.
Also, Song didn't get player of the year (from writers I seem to remember) because why on earth would British writers pick someone from Arsenal? They hate us at the moment.

And I for one am chuffed to bits at that. Shows we're getting to them
