Only his transfer fee and wages put Wenger off from signing him. 8million and 70k a week for 30 year old?

Can't say I blame wenger. He has the safest job in the universe and we have some narrow-minded fans who think parker isn't good enough to be a gunner.
Oh well another trophyless season awaits us.

Wenger was happy to spend £5m or whatever it was on Squillaci when he was 30 and he wasn't even going to be first choice. £8m really isn't a great deal of money nowadays, especially for what you're getting.

Probably part of the problem - this 'isn't good enough' attitude, as though Parker is going to pass to the opposition or something as soon as he puts on the Arsenal shirt. He's no worse than the like of Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick, who manage to help United to the title season after season. I'd also suggest he's better than Song and Diaby; I think both are good and maybe more talented but do they do the job on the pitch every week like Parker does?

Squillaci is not on 70k a week, more over wenger's desperate to fill the defensive leaks. Even if Cesc leaves(?), Aresenal have got players like Parker to fill the void.

In recent trophyless years it's become quite evident that we need another 'Romford Pele' to balance out the exotic flavours of our squad.

Where would Parker fit in? It's not like he's a holding midfielder so why do we need him?

posted on 15/7/11

I love how people see a name and stick it in. No need to think of where they play and what we already have in that position. We need a left back so lets buy bent. he's good and Villa will sell

Joey Barton for number 1. Getting him between the sticks is kinda like behind bars. He'll slot right in.

'Where would Parker fit in?'

erm.. central midfield maybe? All this 'holding' player makes me laugh, as though all of a sudden every team has to have one like they have to have a 'keeper but I would suggest Parker would be the more defensive player in a midfield three.

As for the guy talking about 'what we already have' in that position - what do you already have? Alex Song and not a lot else, I would suggest. Anyway, I expected that sort of response really - enjoy winning nothing again next season.

Sir, Alex song is one of the best Defensive midfielders in the league. Much beter then Parker. Why would we spend 8million on Parker to have him sit on the bench. We have perfect back up also for him. And as for winning nothing? You know this how? The season hasn't started and the transfer window is no where near closed. What a pathetic little wum you are. I'd quite happily have a descusion about football (any team) with any fan just not one that makes pointless comments about a team he knows nothing about.

posted on 15/7/11

And you say he'd be defensive in our midfeild three. Currently we have Fab, Nasri, Song, Wilshire, Ramsay. Who would he knock of that 5?

posted on 15/7/11

Fabregas, Wilshere and Song are all better than Parker. Parker is not a holding midfielder and thus will provide no competition to Song. Jack and Cesc already have plenty of competition. The signing or Parker would be pointless

haha and there it is: the first 'wum' remark. I'm sorry you'e getting wound up but it really wasn't my intention when posting; perhaps the problem is more that you don't like it when someones writes something you don't agree with?

I don't see what's pointless about my comment either - I'm expressing an opinion, which is what this board is for and I probably know more about Arsenal than you realise.

If Song is so great then why didn't he win the Writer's Player of the Year instead of Parker? Why does he go missing at set pieces and seems incapable of marking anyone? I think your basis for saying Song is better is because he plays for Arsenal and is foreign.

Finally, I don't know that Arsenal won't win anything this season - obviously noone could know that. If you used your brain, assuming you have one, you'd know what it was a prediction phrased as a little dig at you.

Well, ignoring the fact that 2 of those players look likely to leave and that I very much doubt they've started a single Arsenal game together, my answer is Song.

You don't seem to understand football. We play a 4-3-3 where Song plays a holding role. Parker is incapable of performing this role the only way to fit him in would be to change our formation to suit him and something tells me Wenger is not going to change his philosophy to suit a 30 year old who captained his team to relegation

posted on 15/7/11

I think you missed something. Fab and Nasri are not going to leave.

I'm not getting wound up at all. I know where Arsenals failings are and i know central midfield is not one of them. I just stated that it is a waste of money. Do you honestly believe that winning sports writer of the year award makes him the best player in the league? Do you think he's better than Essian, Tiote, Fab. Do you beleive he had the best season out of everyone last season? He was made to look a lot better in a West ham team that didn't try. Big fish little pond?

How can you say fact and look likey? I'm discussing Arsenal football club at present. They are both Arsenal players.

If you're not getting wound up then why did you say 'wum'? Sounds like you're getting a little stressed to me, just because I suggested Arsenal sould sign a player - maybe you should get out more?

Anyway, I don't say that Parker was the best player in the league - just that he's better than Song. I don't think he's better than Fabregas or Essien either.

I think basically it's a case that Wenger rightly or wrongly does not rate him that highly...

I know Wenger allegedly likes any player under his guidance to be both intelligent and technically sound. I'm not saying Parker does not posses those attributes, but either way, I just don't think Wenger believes Parker would fit the mould.

posted on 15/7/11

You said if Song is so great then why didn't he win Writers player of the year. Going by this argument then anyone who didn't win it, isn't as good as parker. So i named some players who didn't win it.

And i said WUM becasue so far on this debate you have tried to bring my personal life into it. (making up stuff up hat i need to get out more and that I'm getting stressed). And you've openly admitted making digs at me. That is a WUM

Seems to be the case re: Wenger. Do you think that his transfer 'policy' - if we assume there is one that seems to preclude most experienced English or English-based players is harming Arsenal's chances of winning a trophy?
