Leeds 4 : 0 Shrewsbury - Review

Leeds new look side began life with a comprehensive 4-0 win against newly promoted Shrewbury, but what can be taken from the game?

Leeds started well, but the opening exchanges were very even. For those who thought this was an easy win against poor opposition take note - this could have gone down a very different path.

Seconds before the goal, a Shrewsbury corner was headed the wrong way by Austin and only for a fine save down low to Kenny's left kept the scores level. Kenny stopped the ball dead on the line with protests from the opposition saying the ball was in.

The ball made its way up field for Austin to make amends with a swerving shot (his trademark it seems) that led to Becchio's opener.

This is how seasons swing with fine margins.

But what can be taken from this game?

Well there certainly seems to be an excellent team spirit. With Shrewsbury already on the pitch for the second half, Leeds players waited in the tunnel making a guard of honour for one player (couldn't see who). They were all laughing and joking and it was obviously a private joke between players. The morale seems excellent and that will go along way this season.

One thing that I took as a great positive was the spine of Pearce, Peltier and Austin.

We have been crying out for a solid back two with a DM in front, well we have it now. Peltier, playing out of position, was magnificent. Coupled with an assured performance from Pearce. We have the makings of a very strong defence.

Attacking wise we looked fluid. We need the creative side of Ross, otherwise we could be blunt this season. Green on the RW still bemuses me.

I will probably get stick for this next part but what are forums for?

The people that booed Diouf are a disgrace.

He came over and clapped the Kop whilst warming up and got a mixture of claps and boos.

When he came on the boos were deafening. For those who thought they were saying "Diouf", I think they were boos.

Quick question for those who are booing him: He is in a Leeds shirt now, will you honestly not celebrate if he scores?

He is a quality player and I'd much rather have him for us, than against us. These fans are fickle and by October he will be liked by all.

Overall we played well, I am concerned that if we go a goal down we might struggle in games, saying that if we go a goal up, I can see us keeping the opposition out and claim a win.

Make no mistake, we will know a hell of a lot more about our new look side come 5pm on Saturday.

Ok i reckon this is the worst i can think of, ...if roy effing keane got a run out for Leeds i wouldn't boo him, but by the same respect i wouldn't cheer him either.

RSL, yeah I suppose I see that, you mean if a Leeds player did something outside of football thta you don't agree with? - but again to be fair, when SG went through his divorce, if asked at the time, I'd of backed our manager 100%, purley becuase he is Leeds....

never liked NW before he became our Leeds manager, ask me if I'd sing his name from the roof tops if we got promoted... hell yes I would

YoungWhite

You said '...If we draw Man U in the cup and he spits at their fans, he will become a Leeds legend - same as if he were to break Rooney's leg with a horror tackle. Doesn't make it right. but we all know this would be the case...'

In your eyes that would make him a legend would it..?

Even with the rider 'Doesn't make it right' it is a stupid comment. And if you think a large chunk of our fans think that he would be legend under those circumstances you're deluded.

Eric - If that happened would our fans be singing about it for years to come?

We both know the answer

come on guys, in Young Whites defence, I as much as anybody hate violence in football, but that said, if during a showdown between Leeds and Man Utd, like the old days where the atmosphere is pumping and say Austin goes in hard on one of thier players, braking his leg, he would be remembered by the Leeds fans for the 'guy who hit Keane hard', Leeds fans would sing it from the terraces... it's not right, but the Leeds vs Man Utd thing can turn people... it can cloud your reason...

So, whilst it is wrong in the first instance, I think what Young white means is that with the 'die hard' Leeds fans.. and when talking with your mates at the pub, the offending Leeds player would be a legend.

as much as I don't like that fact, it is true.

What is to gain by booing Diouf. Is it arrogance? Do you think fans are so important Warnock will release him?

I have sat in the Revie and seen us at our worst times. We are skint but have a very good manager and squad - bar a few marquee signings abd might still be getting new owners.

Surely we need to drive on our squad, not cause division?

For the record, I do not like the sound of Diouf the person. Also, Bowyer and Woodgate clearly were not nice people either - Did you boo them.

Do you all boo many England or Leeds players? Because, lets be honest, many of them are nit good people.
