This reminded me of a couple of things i noticed in the game
1) Kagawa is absolute quality. Ball pretty much sticks to his foot. Close Control in tight spaces, balance, composure, awareness, tidy passing in the final 3rd. More of a passer than a dribbler but capable of beating his man with quick dummies and intelligence.Truly a David silva kind player and a steal for 12+ mill
2)Scholes was the only player consistently on Kagawa's wavelength. Everyone else kept messing up attacks with poor touches or misplaced passes. It is really embarrasing that even at 38 Scholes is still by far our most technically sound CM
3)Nani was poor with his end product last night. But I still feel he can def link up very well with Kags.He is by far our most naturally talented winger. Ppl calling for his head need to realise that Young came on and did absolutely nothing. He would basically get the ball from scholes, dilly dally on the ball like he was about to cross, then give it right back to scholes. He is a technically average player and i just dont see how he will mesh with the neat and tidy possession based football SAF wants to play with Kags. I feel Valencia will have the same problem too. Both of their main strenghts is crossing and thats it. Neither have any variety to their game unfortunately so we really have to hope Nani gets back to his best (confident he will though)
4)Cleverly seemed to just pass the ball sideways to scholes and stand there. Or pass to Evra/CBs, get it back and then pass str8 to scholes again. He was also very average at the Olympics. He suppose to be our up and coming CM maestro. He is already like 23 and has a bad injury record too. Nothing more to say really.
5)Rooney- all i will say is look at the amount of times he messed up an attack due to his poor touch or misplaced pass. These highlights dont even show all those times. Also take into account that he has been playing like this for some years. Only diff is he still somehow managed to get on the score sheet so nobody cared. There have been more than enough articles bashing Rooney this morn so will not go any further. But i wagering right now that seeing the difference in Kags style of play and Rooneys will lead to more and more articles bashing Rooney over the course of the season.
6)Wellbeck - Nothing much to say really. Never taught he has been good enough to be a regular starter for us. Yesterday did not change my opinion

I agree with virtually all the points but hasn't this subject matter been explored already about 999999 times already?
A cursory glance down the board will see this.

Carrick has been accused of doing this for years. Not it's Cleverley's turn.
I would rather he pass the ball sidewards, or backwards then try a long ball and lose possession.

Good God this Reverend Ramsey character is obsessed
I assume he supports Arsenal so I guess it's understandable as his own club has nothing to shout about

Guess when Cleverly played well.
Lat year, when he was partnered with Ando.
Why?
Bcos he is someone who needs his partner to be on the same wavelength as him to create triangles and linking up play with wingers coming inside.
Yesterday, first of all instead of Kagawa, there was no movement at all.
Welbeck was playing as a left winger.
But most of all, he had to hold himself back as Scholes was in the holding role instead of Carrick.
And for all of Scholsey's passing prowess, he is not the best defensively.
Just give him a chance rather than just crucifying him.
I m sure given opportunities and confidence, he can be a very productive player for us.

I think that Clevs and Scholes are pretty similar in terms of play - recycling the ball and keeping it simple. Scholes obviously has the ability to stretch the opposition with his long passing. I suppose me point is that we don't really need two of that type of player in the team and I was hoping that one of them would be withdrawn for Ando sooner than they were.

Sorry but Cleverly does not have Scholes vision, composure, intelligence and passing range. It was painfully obvious yesterday. Pretty much all our attacks were being orchestrated by Scholes from a deep lying position.
Cleverly had ample opportunity to do what Scholes was doing but he spent more time passing the ball to the CB/WB/scholes than actually getting it to Kags and the rest of the attacking players. Everton where more than comfy with him passing the ball sideways and backwards. They clearly seemed more worried about Scholes
I guess he still just 23 so who knows if he will get there but i have my doubts. Bottomline i think he is at best a squad player and not a regular starter in CM

All I said was that they are similar in terms of how they play. I didn't say that Clevs was anywhere near as good as Scholes and I even mentioned that the latter has better long range passing.
Scholes at 23 wasn't as good as Scholes at 30, so we just have to give Clevs some time to develop. I think that he will be a useful player for us, however he needs time to find his role in the team and settle in.
